The Draft 2023 is officially over
The 2023 WWE Draft is officially over and the superstar shakeup was filled with lots of surprises and drama. Over 40 drafts have been done during the television time of both RAW and SmackDown, and some were drafted exclusively after the show went off air.
Some new talents from NXT were added to the red and blue brands and some of them were made Free Agents. The Free Agent concept was not often used during Vince McMahon’s reign. But, this has changed during the Triple-H reign. Here is a detailed explanation on What does free agent mean? Who are the free agents of the 2023, WWE Draft?
What does Free Agent mean?
The WWE Draft happens yearly once, to move WWE superstars into Raw and SmackDown. This year the draft was done as a two day event from April 28 to March 1. Before the Draft had officially begun, WWE released 2 pools of superstars list who are eligible for Day 1 and Day 2 of the WWE Draft. Both Raw and SmackDown officials will make their choice to pick from the available superstars. At the end of the day, some may end up without getting into a roster. They are called Free Agents. They have the liberty to appear on both the shows and compete with superstars of either brand.
Who are the Free Agents after the 2023 WWE Draft?
WWE has announced several WWE superstars as Free Agents after the two day draft. After Day 1 of the draft, on the April 28th episode of SmackDown, superstars such as Omos, Dolph Ziggler, Mustafa Ali and NXT star Von Wagner were not picked by either brand and were declared as free agents.
However, before starting the Day 2 of the draft, Triple-H had a surprise for the WWE universe, he announced that Brock Lesnar will not be participating in the Draft as he had “renegotiated his status as a free agent” and will appear on Raw and Smackdown. After Raw went off the air, WWE released a list of multiple superstars who were drafted to either brands and also announced free agents who are currently free from brand limitations.
