WWE has been keen in hiring and firing talents and has made a lot of changes inside the company. In 2023, we witnessed a number of wrestlers being released as free agents and signed some of the hottest free agents from the rival promotions. A recent report on the company has been revealed, which says that the company has been strategically planning to avoid free agency from the existing talents.

WWE’s strategy to avoid Free Agency

Dave Meltzer recently commented on WWE’s recent contract signings on Wrestling Observer Radio, that the company is ready to sign big-time compensation contracts to their talents to avoid a free agency situation in future.

Meltzer referenced Rey & Dominik Mysterio’s contract signings and stated that they are happy being re-signed to the company for a longer period of time. They both could have waited for a long time until free agency for a big negotiation from WWE & AEW, but the company had made a lot of compensation for a longer deal to avoid free agency.

Meltzer said,

“They’re obviously very happy because they signed both of them. Both of them could have waited until free agency, and at that point, they could have gotten probably a giant offer from AEW and a giant offer from WWE. But obviously, WWE really made it worth their while, which was what I was told is that they are going to they were looking at longtime deals with, greatly increased compensation for the guys because they don’t want free agents right now,”

Charlotte Flair has also recently signed a big deal with the company with a great increase in the price scale and a multi-year deal.

A lot of big names’ existing WWE contracts are about to get expired by 2024 including Becky Lynch, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus and others. Could we be able to see WWE signing huge contracts with them?
