AEW interested in signing Bayley amid uncertainty over WWE status - Report

The Role Model suffered a brutal loss at MSG.

‘The Role Model’ Bayley battled her former tag team partner Lyra Valkyria in a grudge match at Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 18 at MSG. Valkyria emerged victorious, putting the Role Model to sleep via a nasty submission.

Lyra then launched a brutal post-match attack, battering the former Women’s World Champion ringside. However, the talking point around the match and even after it was the rumors and speculations about Bayley’s exit.

Even Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer speculated that the Role Model was likely written off Television for the final time with the attack. Recently, a post claiming the Role Model was moved to the alumni section also went viral.

Bayley’s contract will expire by the end of 2026

On Bayley’s WWE status, Fightful Select reports that sources within the company believe Bayley’s current WWE contract is set to expire by the end of 2026, barring any injury-related time being added. While WWE is keen to retain her, the two sides have yet to agree on a new deal.

Furthermore, AEW’s interest in signing the former multi-time World Champion is nothing new, as people backstage have reportedly been monitoring her contract status for close to a year. If she becomes a free agent, the expectation is that Tony Khan will make a strong offer to bring her to AEW.

The outlet also reported that one agent expressed that Bayley should, at the very minimum, test free agency, noting that he has negotiations that could help reshape how WWE talent approach contract talks.

As of now, the Role Model remains listed on WWE’s active roster. The post-match will likely keep her off TV, but it is unclear for how long or if that was her last WWE appearance.
