Despite his absence from WWE for almost a decade, fans never stopped chanting for ‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk. The Second City Saint remained a fan-favorite among fans, and his return to pro wrestling in AEW only made fans demand his WWE return even more.
Punk returned during the 2023 edition of Survivor Series: WarGames to a deafening pop in Chicago, marking his first TV appearance since 2014 and kicking off his second WWE run.
Since his return, Punk has reminded the naysayers as to why fans kept chanting his name and asking for his return with scathing and legendary promos. The Second City Saint is also no slouch when it comes to action inside the ring.
Punk has not only managed to capture the World Heavyweight title in his second run, but also has had multiple iconic feuds with top names, including John Cena, Seth Rollins, Drew McIntyre, and Roman Reigns, among others.
These feuds have not only delivered great promo battles, but also some incredible matches, and here we will take a look at such matches featuring Punk that garnered a five-star rating from Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer.
3. vs John Cena – Money in the Bank 2011
CM Punk’s iconic 2011 Money in the Bank match against John Cena, where the WWE Championship was on the line, and Punk ended up defeating Cena to win the title. The match is Punk’s first career first-star match in WWE by Metlzer, and the storyline around it is also one of the most iconic in history.
Punk’s contract was set to expire at the PLE, and he vowed to win the title and leave the company with it. What followed was the legendary “pipebomb” promo.

McIntyre continuously taunted Punk during this absence, and Punk retaliated by costing Drew the World Heavyweight title at WrestleMania 40. The feud saw the two battle multiple times; however, it was their Hell in a Cell match at Bad Blood that received a five-star rating from Meltzer.
1. vs Roman Reigns – WrestleMania 42

The latest addition to this list is CM Punk’s title defense against Roman Reigns in the main event of WrestleMania 42 (Sunday). While Punk ended up losing the match and the title, ending his seventh World title reign at 169 days.
The two stars put on an incredible main event in a show that was largely criticized by fans over short matches, especially Night 1 matches. The match received universal praise from fans and industry experts alike. Notably, this was Reigns’ first five-star match as rated by Metlzer.
