WWE’s Big Four event has seen historic clashes over the years with the best of the past and present.

WWE Survivor Series is rapidly approaching, continuing the tradition of the ‘WarGames’ theme for the last two years. The event will take place at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. However, the history of the 35 year+ old Premium Live Event has its fair share of historic clashes.

Over the years, the past and present of WWE have collided in high-stakes showdowns at Survivor Series. Here are Khel Now’s top 10 best WWE Survivor Series matches of all time:

10. Team Austin vs Team Bischoff (2003)

The Co-General Managers of RAW, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Eric Bischoff assembled their squads to collide in the 5-on-5 traditional elimination match at Survivor Series 2003. The high-stakes bout for the full ownership of the GM role came down to Randy Orton from Bischoff’s team and Shawn Michaels from Austin’s side, where The Viper scored the pinfall to win the match for the former WCW President.

9. Triple H vs Ric Flair (2005)

In a historic battle of the ‘Past vs Present’, World Heavyweight Champion Triple H defended his title against Ric Flair in a Last Man Standing match. A match that saw brutality, violence and blood spilt all over ringside saw The Game outlast his mentor to retain his championship at WWE Survivor Series 2005.

8. Lita vs Trish Stratus (2004)

One of the most short-lived matches in the historic rivalry between Trish Stratus and Lita came at WWE Survivor Series 2004. The match saw Lita launching a vicious assault on Trish and sending her face-first into a steel chair. While the match ended in no contest, Stratus famously broke her nose and began wearing her iconic face mask shortly after on RAW.

7. Team WWE vs Team Alliance (2001)

The future of sports entertainment and months of invasion came to its conclusion at WWE Survivor Series 2001. Vince McMahon’s team, WWE, collided against WCW-ECW’s team, Alliance, led by Paul Heyman, Shane and Stephanie McMahon. The final moments of the high-stakes showdown came when Kurt Angle betrayed the Alliance, leading to The Rock pinning Steve Austing and leading team WWE to victory.

6. Lita vs Mickie James (2006)

Mickie James put her WWE Women’s Championship on the line against Lita in her retirement match at the 2006 Survivor Series. Lita fought valiantly, looking to close her storied career with a title win. However, the young rising star, Mickie James, took down the veteran and denied her the victory in her last showing as a full-time performer.

5. Charlotte Flair vs Paige (2015)

The heated feud between former ‘Team PCB’ members Charlotte Flair and Paige reached WWE Survivor Series 2015 with a Divas title match between the duo. The two pioneers of the Women’s Revolution put up a stellar match that was driven by personal animosity and ended in Flair retaining the championship over the Anti-Diva.

4. John Cena vs Triple H vs Shawn Michaels (2009)

John Cena was set to defend his WWE title against both D-X members, Triple H and Shawn Michaels, in a triple-threat match at WWE Survivor Series 2009. However, HBK made it clear with a surprise superkick to Triple H at the start that there were no alliances in the bout. The three biggest WWE superstars of all time fought tooth and nail against each other. But in the end, it was Cena who walked away with the title still around his waist.

3. Team Cena vs Team Authority (2014)

John Cena led a squad of top-tier WWE superstars against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon’s Team Authority in a traditional Survivor Series elimination match at the 2014 event. With Cena’s squad’s future and the Authority’s power on the line, it was a match for the ages.

Moreover, it will always remain memorable for the debut of Sting, who took out the Authority in WWE. This allowed Cena squad member Dolph Ziggler, who single-handily eliminated Team Authority’s three members, to score the win for his team.

2. Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels (1997)

One of the most controversial in-ring matches in Survivor Series history will always be the historic clash between WWE Champion Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels for the title in 1997. This was also Hart’s last match for the company as he was set to debut for WCW.

The match became famous for the double cross ending when Vince McMahon called for the bell as Michaels had Hart trapped in his own submission, the sharpshooter, who did not submit. This was the plan hatched by McMahon and his allies to protect their company and famously came to be known as ‘The Montreal Screwjob.’

1. First-ever Elimination Chamber Match (2002)

The 2002 edition of the WWE Survivor Series will always be remembered as the sight of the very first Elimination Chamber match. The bout featured six top RAW superstars competing for the World Heavyweight title, held by Triple H.

The match came down to ‘The Game’ and his former best friend, Shawn Michaels, who brutalized each other with the steel environment around them. However, the ending saw Michaels land a Sweet Chin Music on Triple H to win the title, and the first-ever Elimination Chamber match in history.
