The American Nightmare retained the WWE title at WrestleMania.

‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes defeated Randy Orton to retain the Undisputed Championship, once again solidifying his place at the top of the face of the SmackDown brand and continuing in his role as the ‘QB1’ of WWE.

Despite the orbital injury, Rhodes, in his promo on SmackDown last week, made it clear that while he is an easy man to find, he is a very hard man to beat. In a recent conversation with ESPN, Rhodes named a former World Champion as his dream opponent.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Cody Rhodes revealed that one of his dream matches would be against ‘The Second City Saint’ CM Punk.

“All-time dream match – I think fans think might happen but I think is very hard to put together – I will use myself in this example, but a dream match that I’d like to be part of is probably myself vs CM Punk.”

However, the American Nightmare also suggested that the chances of the match happening are very slim. He noted that he is unsure whether CM Punk would want it, or even if he himself would. Still, Rhodes added that the matchup would be a great moment for professional wrestling.

“The likelihood of it happening, who knows? Wrestling has gotten more… it’s difficult. We’re collaborators these days, so it’s difficult. I don’t know if he’d want that, and I don’t even know if I’d want it. But I know it would just be really great and be very good for wrestling,”

That said, Cody might be downplaying it all as WWE teased the match right after WrestleMania 42 on Raw, as Punk and Rhodes engaged in a promo, where a potential clash was teased, with Rhodes even noting that all Punk has to do is say when he wants it.

Additionally, reports have also hinted at WWE possibly booking Punk and Rhodes in a feud, where the Undisputed title will likely be up for grabs.

A potential storyline between the two will likely rile up interest among WWE fans, as it would be the first time the two have clashed since their respective return after leaving AEW. The two last went head-to-head in WWE in 2008.

Which superstar did Cody Rhodes name as his dream opponent?

Rhodes named CM Punk as his dream opponent, but noted that he isn’t sure CM Punk would want it, or even if he himself would.

When was the last time two went head-to-head in WWE?

Rhodes and Punk last competed in a singles match on the December 29, 2008, edition of Monday Night Raw.
