(Courtesy : WWE)
The former NXT champion has already made his main roster debut
On the April 9 episode of RAW, Ilja Dragunov made his main roster debut, securing a victory over Shinsuke Nakamura. Additionally, it was announced during the broadcast that Dragunov would be eligible for the upcoming 2024 WWE Draft.
The following day on NXT, Dragunov was challenged by Trick Williams for a title shot. Dragunov accepted under the condition that Williams would leave NXT if he lost, a stipulation Williams agreed to. At Spring Breakin’, Dragunov suffered defeat at the hands of Williams, resulting in the end of his championship reign at 206 days. While he stands defeated for now, let’s have a look on what can be the possible directions for Ilja Dragunov after his loss at the NXT Edition on 23 April 2024.
Heading out to main roster
With his remarkable skills and fierce intensity, Dragunov could seamlessly transition to WWE’s main roster, whether on Raw or SmackDown.
His hard-hitting in-ring style and distinct persona could swiftly establish him as a force to be reckoned with in WWE’s fiercely competitive environment, captivating audiences and making a significant impact from the moment he steps foot onto the main stage.
Heel Turn and possibly join Judgement Day
While there are indications that Damian Priest can go out of the Judgement Day, Dragunov could join the most dominating faction on Raw, The Judgement Day.
Joining the faction could provide him with the experience of being a heel in the company and also under the supervision of Mami, Rhea Ripley, and Finn Balor, he could be cherished more, thereafter challenging the other wrestlers for the Mid Card Championship and finally Damian Priest for the World Title.
Join Imperium
With Vinci being kicked out of the Imperium, Gunther might want someone who is an important wrestler in WWE and Dragunov might be one of them. Joining Imperium could provide Dragunov with a new direction following his NXT Title loss, aligning him with a group that values discipline, strength, and tradition.
As part of Imperium, Dragunov could showcase his intensity and brutality while also benefiting from the mentorship and guidance of established members like Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser.
Going ahead for the Mid Card Championship
Competing for titles like the United States Championship on Raw or the Intercontinental Championship on SmackDown (Presumably after Draft) could provide Dragunov with a new goal to pursue on the main roster.
His intensity and in-ring prowess would make him a credible contender for these titles, and a championship victory could elevate his status and showcase his abilities to a wider audience.
A Match against former Opponent
A rivalry between Ilja Dragunov and Bron Breakker would be incredibly compelling. Both competitors possess immense physicality and intensity, making their matches hard-hitting and thrilling to watch. Their contrasting styles – Dragunov’s hard-hitting strikes and Breakker’s power-based offense – would create dynamic in-ring encounters that could captivate audiences.
A feud between Dragunov and Breakker could elevate both superstars, positioning them as top contenders in WWE’s highly competitive landscape.
It will be interesting to see how everything will be planned for him, let’s tune into Smackdown to see how it goes on the TV.
