The war of words doesn’t feel like a storyline.
‘The Eradicator’ Rhea Ripley overcame five opponents to win in the WWE women’s Elimination Chamber match at the namesake PLE last Saturday in Chicago.
With the victory, Ripley earned a WrestleMania title opportunity against reigning WWE Women’s Champion Jade Cargill. As expected, fans anticipated the start of a heated rivalry between the two heading into the “Grandest Stage.”
However, what followed didn’t feel like a typical storyline build, as the situation appeared to escalate beyond the usual scripted tension.
A timeline of the feud on social media

The back-and-forth started when Rhea Ripley tweeted, “Guess… I’m that bitch” a phrase closely associated with Cargill, while also highlighting a tweet that noted that she will be competing in her seventh consecutive WrestleMania. This prompted Cargill to fire back at Ripley, reminding her she was “the second option.”
What followed next saw Ripley tagging Cargill in clips where she discussed a potential showdown with Rhea. Cargill pushed back, insisting she was simply speaking in general terms and even shared footage of herself mentioning Charlotte Flair instead.
Ripley then fired back, accusing Cargill of doing nothing but talking, a shot likely at Cargill’s infrequent title defense.
In response, the Women’s Champion didn’t mince words. She accused Ripley of spending hours in discussions with WWE creative, a pointed remark that many interpreted as a subtle jab at the backstage influence Ripley may hold due to her star power.
The last response in the exchange was from the Women’s Champion, who tweeted out, “Hit dogs will holler . Holla holla holla 🥰.”
The following day, Chelsea Green and Piper Niven got entangled in the situation, as Green reshared the original fan graphic that had sparked the discussion about Ripley’s WrestleMania streak, adding a complimentary note of her own. “Rhea is proof that you can be kind, respectful and the most talented wrestler in the world.” Green tweeted.
Cargill wasn’t too pleased with the tweet as she instantly replied, “It’s no point to even go and embarrass you on this app. You always have something to say about everything.”
Chelsea replied, tweeting, “Damn. Hit dogs really DO holler!! WOOF WOOF” with a red heart emoji. Cargill responded with, “Keep tap dancing Chelsea. Woof Woof” with a smiling face with hearts emoji.
Piper Niven, Chelsea’s slay agent who is currently out of action due to injury, fired back at Jade, asking who said anything about her, and reminding the Champion that the world doesn’t revolve around her. Niven took it up a notch in the same tweet writing, “No point to even embarrass you on this app, give you enough ringtime and you’ll do it yourself.”
In response, Cargill hoped that Niven is healing and expressed her excitement to give her some ring time.
The final chapter in this two-day saga came in the form of the last two tweets exchanged between Niven and Cargill, which you can see below.
Rhea Ripley hints at Jade Cargill breaking the fourth wall

Following a day filled with a social media feud with Cargill, Ripley took to her Instagram Stories before last night’s Monday Night Raw with a message that carried a tone that felt much more serious.
“Not having fun. Not friends. Learn to work and never lie to defame someone’s real human character by ‘breaking the 4th wall’”
The choice of words caught many fans’ attention. The phrase “breaking the fourth wall” refers to addressing real-life events or backstage issues in wrestling.
Rhea also claimed that someone was defaming her “real human character.” Ripley appears to be signaling that the tension goes beyond the scripted storyline for WrestleMania 42.
In the post-WWE Unreal world, fans are often skeptical of conflicts that blur the line between storyline and reality. It’s possible that WWE is incorporating elements of the rivalry into a storyline leading up to WrestleMania, while some genuine tension may also be present behind the scenes.
During the March 2 fallout episode of Raw, Rhea Ripley vowed to win the title for Iyo Sky and announced that on Friday, she will see Jade Cargill face-to-face and come WrestleMania, she is going to leave as the new WWE Women’s Champion. Fans will now have to wait untill Friday to see how the segment unfolds.
Are Jade Cargill and Rhea Ripley arguing as part of a storyline?
Their social media exchanges have blurred the lines between storyline and reality. While WWE may be weaving elements of the rivalry into a storyline leading up to WrestleMania, some of the interactions, especially the tone of Ripley’s IG story, suggest there may be genuine tension mixed in.
When and where will WrestleMania 42 take place?
The 42nd edition of WrestleMania will take place as a two-night event on April 18 and 19 at Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada.
