The wrestling industry has seen some of the most remarkable luchadors in history.
WWE has been the home to world-class in-ring superstars in the world. Among them, the global juggernaut has also seen the influx of masked warriors who define speed, high-fly, and gravity inside the ring. These top stars have their roots in Mexico and came to be known as ‘Luchadors.’
The style of lucha libre has been prevalent for many years, and some top names of the wrestling business have brought their spectacular and high-flying style to WWE. Here is a look at the top 10 luchadors in the history of the company:
10. Penta
The latest addition to the list of luchadors in WWE history is Penta. He has been making waves in top promotions for many years, and his stint in AEW for almost five years made him a mainstream name. Moreover, Penta is only months into his WWE run and has already created top moments and displayed his lucha style on the highest level.

9. Gran Metalik
One of the standout luchador stars from the popular Cruiserweight Classic tournament 2016 was Gran Metalik. He was a part of WWE for a few years as part of the Lucha House Party and had some impressive moves in his arsenal. Although he had a short tenure in the promotion which ended in 2021, he went on to compete for other promotions like AEW and ROH and his in-ring ability was top notch.
8. Dragon Lee
Dragon Lee is a part of the current WWE roster who has already made waves with his short run in the company. His impressive stint in NXT led him to become the North American Champion and get called up to the main roster. He is aligned with Rey Mysterio’s LWO on RAW and has the potential to rise as a top luchador in the business.
7. Santos Escobar
Santos Escobar is another name who is a regular part of SmackDown currently. Much like Dragon Lee, Escobar also had a good run in NXT and is currently in charge of Legado Del Fantasma. Not only that, but Escobar has shown his worth as a top luchador star on multiple occasions and has the tools to become a top star.
6. Sin Cara
The man brought in as an international sensation to WWE was Sin Cara. The masked luchador signed with the company back in the early 2010s and was poised to rise to the level of Rey Mysterio. He had a lengthy stint with WWE for many years and then left the promotion to become a bigger name outside it.

5. Kalisto
Another top luchador identified as filling the shoes of the great Rey Mysterio during his absence from WWE was Kalisto. His high-flying ability and gravity-defying moves were witnessed on multiple WWE shows. Moreover, Kalisto also captured multiple titles, such as the US and cruiserweight championships, and became a top name in the company for a long time.
4. Andrade El Idolo
Andrade El Idolo is possibly a top name in the history of WWE luchadors to not don a mask regularly. El Idolo had a remarkable first run in WWE, winning top titles like the NXT and United States titles. He then made waves with a short but impressive stint in AEW. This led to WWE re-signing him in 2024, and he is currently being positioned as a top star on SmackDown.

3. Ultimo Dragon
Ultimo Dragon was already a big name in the wrestling business before arriving in WWE for a short tenure in the early 2000s. He has made a huge impact in companies like WCW and in countries like Japan. The legendary luchadors brought a mix of martial arts and lucha libre style to the squared circle and is credited to be one of the best lucha stars in the history of wrestling.
While Ultimo Dragon was more known for his work in Japan and WCW, his brief WWE run in the early 2000s showcased his technical prowess. He was already a legendary luchador before joining WWE, bringing a mix of lucha libre and martial arts-inspired moves.
2. Rey Misterio Sr.
One of the biggest names in the history of lucha libre was the masked luchador Rey Misterio Sr. He has been considered a pioneer in the lucha-style and a trailblazer in the business of wrestling. Not only that, Misterio also trained many future athletes who went on to become top names in WWE.

This led to Rey Mysterio making history by winning World Championships alongside multiple other titles. Moreover, his in-ring style, high-flying moves, and illustrious career led him to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
