Over the years, we have witnessed some amazing Backlash events
WWE has produced eighteen Backlash PPVs, making it one of the longest-running events on the PPV calendar – and that includes a seven-year gap during which the show did not take place! This show is traditionally held immediately following WrestleMania, with the name “WWE Backlash” referring to it being the year’s largest show.Over the years, some Backlash events have been absolutely amazing, while others have been among the worst the firm has ever created. Backlash has undoubtedly been a mixed bag, especially given how long it has lasted.
Here are the top five greatest WWE Backlash events of all time:
5. WWE Backlash 2004
This was a show highlighted by a rematch of the WrestleMania 20 main event, and it lived up to expectations. Randy Orton and Cactus Jack also destroyed the house with a vicious Hardcore Match. Chris Jericho’s match against Christian and Trish Stratus, as well as Shelton Benjamin’s match against Ric Flair, were very enjoyable. There were some uninteresting moments in this concert, but the two masterpieces more than made up for it.

4. WWE Backlash 2022
Backlash had excellent in-ring performances in consecutive years. Cody Rhodes vs. Seth Rollins was a terrific battle, Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey was savage and entertaining, Edge and AJ Styles had a greater bout than they did at WrestleMania, and the six-man main event was fantastic. In reality, this incident had few negative aspects.
3. WWE Backlash 2009
Backlash 2009 was full of diversity and enjoyment. Jeff Hardy vs. Matt Hardy was a terrific “I Quit” battle, Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Steamboat was a special presentation of a legend, and The Legacy vs. Shane McMahon, Batista, and Triple H was a star-studded and chaotic event.
The main event Last Man Standing contest between John Cena and Edge was really powerful, maybe their greatest performance together in a duel with a massive big fight sense.

2. WWE Backlash 2016
SmackDown’s first PPV after the brand split felt special. It had a distinct vibe with new stars and many memorable moments featuring new Tag Team, Women’s, and WWE Champions. The Miz vs. Dolph Ziggler match also exceeded expectations, kicking off Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton’s long-running feud.
1. WWE Backlash 2007
Arguably the greatest Backlash PPV ever, 2007 featured a fantastic main event starring Shawn Michaels, Edge, Randy Orton, and John Cena. This card was just perfect—a draw between Batista and The Undertaker didn’t really pose a problem, and Bobby Lashley and the McMahon brothers seemed positively crazy.
