CM Punk has been an accomplished World Champion in WWE.
CM Punk has been regarded as one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time. His career has been defined by controversial and memorable moments, matches, and a huge fan base. Another top accolade that cemented Punk’s status as a top star is World Championship wins, which is the pinnacle of Sports Entertainment.
CM Punk has won eight overall World titles in WWE
The Best in the World’s journey towards a World title in WWE began in 2007 when he won the ECW title from John Morrison. Following that in 2008. After Batista took out then-World Heavyweight Champion Edge with an assault, CM Punk, who was Mr. Money in the Bank at the time, cashed in his contract to win his first World Championship in the company. Punk remained champion for a while, until an attack by Randy Orton and his Legacy led to him relinquishing the title.
The next title reign for CM Punk also came at the expense of his second Money in the Bank contract, which he won in 2009. At that year’s Extreme Rules pay-per-view, he cashed in on Jeff Hardy after he won the World Heavyweight title from Edge to take it away from him.
Punk and Hardy exchanged the title over the next few months, which also etched his fourth World title reign and led to Hardy’s exit from the company. However, his title reign came to an end at the hands of The Undertaker at that year’s Hell in a Cell event.
CM Punk would wait two more years to win his next World Championship, which was a memorable sight. On the last day of his contract, the Second City Saint defeated John Cena to win his first WWE championship at the 2011 Money in the Bank show and walk out from his hometown of Chicago with the title.
Following that, Punk had his most accomplished World title reign in WWE. At the Survivor Series 2011 event, he defeated Alberto Del Rio to win his second WWE title and fifth overall World Championship. He went on to hold the title for 434 days, until losing it to The Rock at the 2013 Royal Rumble event.
Almost twelve years later, Punk would win his seventh World Championship at the 2025 SummerSlam Premium Live Event. He defeated Gunther in a hard-fought battle and won the championship to a loud ovation. However, his title reign lasted only five minutes as his arch rival, Seth Rollins, cashed in his Money in the Bank contract to snatch the title from him and outsmart him once again.
Following Rollins’ injury, Punk battled Jey Uso for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship at the November edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. Punk managed to hit two back-to-back GTS to pin Jey and capture the World Heavyweight title once again.
