WWE has produced some weird factions in history.

WWE has experienced a significant influx of major superstars across various eras of the company. With a major pool of talent on the roster, the promotion has often paired some captivating stars together to make them a formidable faction, giving them significant TV time that was previously limited, and establishing a top division for teams.

Among the top factions that have become highly popular, like the nWo, D-Generation, The Four Horsemen, and more, there has been a select list of factions that were problematic or just cringeworthy. Here are five of those factions in WWE history:

5. Right to Censor

The Right to Censor faction emerged in the Attitude Era as a formalized attire-wearing movement that utilized censorship as a tool to make their identity. Although it had members like Ivory, Perry Saturn, and Stevie Richards, the name, as well as the noise of censorship, was very much irritating and cringy, and was perceived as bland at a time when everything was over-the-top and vibrant.

4. Retribution

While the name seemed promising, the Retribution name itself posed a problem and multiple confusions for the audience to resonate with it. Moreover, the faction members themselves had cringeworthy names like Mace, T-Bar, and Slapjack, which overshadowed the rising talents that were coming up. Even their leader, Mustafa Ali, did not go anywhere with the faction, and they had a short-lived tenure.

3. The Corre

The Corre was nothing but a rebranded and less impactful name given to the NXT rookie faction, Nexus. It had the same combination of Wade Barrett, Justin Gabriel, and Heath Slater with the addition of Ezekiel Jackson. WWE thought that adding an extra ‘r’ would make it a formidable unit, but it did not appeal to the WWE fans, who saw it as a spinoff of Nexus, and it failed to make any relevant impact.

2. La Familia

La Familia consisted of Edge, Vickie, and Chavo Guerrero and the Major Brothers on SmackDown in the late 2000s. The name became problematic as it led to some confusion regarding their relations. Only Chavo and Vickie were related. Edge had just married Vickie in the storyline. Moreover, Curt Hawkins and Zack Ryder had a resemblance to Edge, but were nowhere related to him at all.

1. The Spirit Squad

The Spirit Squad was a cringeworthy act right from their name to their debut as male cheerleaders with over-enthusiasm. The name did not match at all to the potential possessed by each member.

Moreover, their entire presentation failed to make them a top attraction, even with Vince McMahon being paired with them. Only Dolph Ziggler was able to break out as a top singles star when he debuted a new look and removed all traces of the Spirit Squad.
