The two stars will clash at the January 25 Saturday Night’s Main Event
WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther is set to defend his title against ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso at the January 25 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. The first SNME of 2025 will air live from the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
Similar to the December 14, 2024 SNME it will be broadcast live on NBC. The clash was announced on the 01/13 episode of Monday Night Raw following a segment between the two where Jey challenged the Ring General for a title showdown at the upcoming SNME.
Ahead of their clash in the Frost Bank Centre let us take a look at the three reasons the Ring General will retain his title against Jey on January 25.
3. Jey Uso’s limitations
Despite being an extremely talented wrestler, Jey Uso is primarily known for his tag team title run alongside his brother Jimmy Uso (The Usos). The Ring General also pointed this out during their segment last week where he stated that Jey is “just a really good tag-team wrestler”.
Since starting his singles run, Jey has become one of the top stars in the promotion and captured the Intercontinental title after defeating Bron Breakker. However, his IC title run only lasted 28 days, this was in part due to the Bloodline’s interference in the rematch against Breakker.
While Jey is more than capable of winning another title he is facing one of the most dominant champions in the promotion right now. Jey could still prove us all wrong and defeat the Ring General on January 25, which would only enhance his star power and add to his compelling underdog story. and defeat the Ring General on January 25, but it will only further his star power and his underdog story.

2. Long-term plans
There are a lot of rumors and reports which suggest that the Ring General will face either Logan Paul or John Cena this probably means that he will retain the title until WrestleMania 41. The promotion will likely set up a huge title match for him at the grandest stage.
The lack of build-up for the match between the two stars at the January 25 edition of SNME also hints at the lack of possibility that we will get a new champion.
1. Gunther’s dominance
One of the prime reasons for the Ring General to retain the title against Jey is the sheer dominance he has displayed in his title reign which is very similar to his Intercontinental title reign which lasted 666 days. Gunther defended the title 21 times before Sami Zayn defeated him at WrestleMania 40 to end his IC title reign.
The Ring General then kicked off his ascend toward the World title and ultimately achieved the goal at WWE SummerSlam 2024 PLE where he defeated Damian Priest to become the World Heavyweight Champion. His title reign currently stands at 166 days with four title defenses.
The title defenses at Saturday Night’s Main Event will mark the Ring General’s fifth defense, with his most recent defense taking place on the December 14, 2024, edition of SNME.
