In terms of stipulation, WWE has produced a variety of weird and unconventional matches in history.
WWE has been developed as the global professional wrestling giant for over four decades. One of the biggest success factors for WWE has been its ability to produce world-class in-ring action between top superstars. But their success rate of matches has not stopped them from experimenting with weird stipulation bouts.
Over the years, the WWE Universe has witnessed some of the most unheard and surprising matches in the company’s history. Here is our list of the top 10 weirdest WWE matches of all time:
10. Gravy Bowl match
In 2001, top stars from the women’s division, Trish Stratus and Stacy Keibler, squared off in a Gravy Bowl match. Both divas sat across each other on a long table with food items that they would use as weapons. Furthermore, the two would then fight it out in a huge Gravy bowl pond set near the entrance ramp and saw Trish defeating Keibler to end the unconventional match.
9. Gulf of Mexico match
CM Punk and Chavo Guerrero were part of the first and only Gulf of Mexico match in 2008. The arena, being only a few yards from the water body, saw the action start from inside the venue and lead up to both men fighting it out near the Gulf. As the end came, Punk executed a GTS and sent Chavo straight into the water, winning the match as per the stipulation.

8. King of the Road match
During his time in WCW, Dustin Rhodes fought a wrestler named Blacktop Bully in a King of the Road match. The duo competed on a moving truck filled with equipment and haystacks, which made it extremely difficult for them even to stand, let alone fight. The match saw Rhodes lose the bout as the winner had to hunk the truck horn, with Blacktop outlasting Dustin to it.
7. Hog Pen match
Chavo and Vickie Guerrero faced off against Santina Marella in a handicap Hog Pen match at the 2009 WWE Extreme Rules match. The match was contested in a fenced area with a farm setup and pigs in a certain section. Following a highly messy and dirt-filled match, the ending saw Santina pin Vickie retain her title as Miss WrestleMania.
6. Referee vs Referee match
During the Invasion storyline in 2001, not only the wrestlers but even the referees got into a physical altercation. This saw WWE’s Earl Hebner wrestle against WCW/ECW’s Nick Patrick in a referee vs referee match officiated by WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley. The match was as physical as anybody expected it to be and saw Earl Hebner emerging as the winner.

5. Trading places match
One of the most hilarious matches to take place on RAW in 2010 was a trading places match between Goldust and William Regal. The stipulation saw both superstars exchange gimmicks, with Regal donning his face paint and golden attire and Goldust wearing Regal’s wig, ring gear and even using the brass knuckles to his advantage.
4. Eye vs Eye match
The heated rivalry between Seth Rollins and Rey Mysterio saw them compete in an ‘Eye vs Eye’ match at the 2020 WWE Extreme Rules event. The gruesome match had an even weirder stipulation to reach the finish, which was extracting one’s eyeball. Rollins did just that by pressing Rey’s face into the steel steps, leading to his eyeball being plucked and giving The Visionary the win.

3. 2020 Money in the Bank ladder match
One of the weirdest and most chaotic matches in WWE has to be the 2020 Money in the Bank ladder match that took place inside the WWE Headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The all-out brawl spread all across Titan Towers saw both men and women compete at the same time with insane and hilarious spots. In the end, it was Asuka and Otis to emerge victorious.
2. Mountain Dew Pitch Black match
Bray Wyatt‘s last PLE match saw him face LA Knight in a highly unconventional bout called the Pitch Black match. The stipulation had the entire arena turned black with a neon effect glowing the ringside area and having Mountain Dew’s branding, who was the official sponsor. The insane and demonic environment produced a weird yet stellar showdown, which saw Wyatt get the win over The Megastar.
1. Wee L C match
WWE Universe was left in awe at the sight of the highly weird and entertaining Wee LC match between Hornswoggle and El Torito at WWE Extreme Rules 2014. From foreign weapons to referees to even the announcer’s team, everything was small to fit the size of the midgets. The match also saw highly mesmerizing spots that became a thrilling experience for the fans that has been etched in history.
