Why are some WWE stars hesitant to work with Oba Femi? Real reason revealed

Oba Femi has had a quick rise to stardom in WWE.

WWE Superstar Oba Femi has quickly established himself as one of the most dominant rising forces in the company. From his impressive run in NXT to his high-profile victories over Brock Lesnar and Bronson Reed, The Ruler has become a major part of WWE’s plans for the future.

In the recent Money in the Bank 2026 PLE, the Femi vs Reed match was one of the most-watched highlights on WWE’s YouTube Channel. While some fans were unhappy with overall PLE outcomes, most of them showed appreciation for the ruler’s win over Reed.

However, a new backstage report suggests that not everyone in the locker room is enthusiastic about working with the Nigerian powerhouse.

Why are some WWE Superstars reportedly hesitant to work with Oba Femi?

Wrestling personality Self Made Pro discussed the subject during a recent Self Made Session. When asked how established WWE stars feel about putting over younger talents such as Femi and Bron Breakker, he explained that reactions can vary depending on a wrestler’s position in the company.

“It really depends on who you ask because it depends. It depends on where your spot is on the card. I know that there were a lot of wrestlers that were hesitant to work Oba Femi, not out of anything personally against Oba, but because they knew, ‘Oh, if I’m being paired against Oba Femi, I’m going to be, like, f****** and sent down the card a little bit.’”

He even claimed that the concern was not personal animosity towards Femi. Rather, certain wrestlers allegedly recognize that being paired with a talent WWE is strongly promoting could leave them with little to gain from the programme.

Self Made Pro also named Gunther as another wrestler who reportedly faces similar reluctance from some colleagues. According to his comments, the issue arises when performers believe they are being used primarily to establish another star without receiving a meaningful benefit for themselves.

The situation nevertheless highlights a familiar challenge in professional wrestling. When a promotion identifies a potential main-event star, established performers may be asked to help build that wrestler through high-profile matches and decisive defeats. While such a programme can strengthen the winner’s credibility, the losing competitor’s subsequent direction becomes equally important.

Could Oba Femi’s rise create a problem for WWE?

Femi’s increasing popularity may be a cause for concern for WWE if they decide to keep on using him as the near-invincible character. It is always necessary for the company to make sure that every loss that is incurred serves some kind of storyline and that the defeated character remains credible.

This reluctance in facing Femi therefore has nothing to do with the in-ring skill level of the superstar but is rather due to the possible effects of working with such a superstar. Without having a follow-up story, the wrestler would think he has lost credibility to Femi.

A good competition can actually work wonders for a wrestler who will lose the match in the end. He may increase the credibility of the opponent by trying to test him and pushing him to his limits.

According to rumors, Oba Femi might go up against Roman Reigns in WrestleMania 43. He made it clear that he wants to fight the best in the business by confronting the reigning World Heavyweight Champion after Money in the Bank.
