During last week’s SmackDown, interim WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green teamed up with Women’s US Champion Tiffany Stratton to take on Fatal Influence (Fallon Henley & Lainey Reid) for the Women’s Tag Team titles.
Green sustained an injury during the match, according to a report from the Observer. Following the report, Chelsea Green, via her IG, confirmed the injury, revealing that she suffered a broken orbital bone around her right eye.
Following the confirmation, the speculations about Green relinquishing the title picked up steam. On that note, we now have a new update ahead of tonight’s August 14 edition of SmackDown in Boston.
Chelsea Green is expected to be out of in-ring action
According to a report from WrestleVotes on Fightful Select, Chelsea Green is expected to be out of in-ring action for several weeks.
However, a WWE source revealed that Green is not expected to be taken off television or stripped of her championship. She is also expected to appear on this Friday’s episode of SmackDown at TD Garden in Boston.
The report added that some within WWE have been impressed by the social media engagement generated by Green’s title following SummerSlam.
Green won the Interim title in a ladder match at SummerSlam. The title was introduced in the absence on reignign Champion Rhea Ripley, who is out of action since Clash in Italy due to a knee injury.
On the storyline front, after losing the match last week, Tiffany Stratton, as agreed upon, will defend the Women’s United States title against Jacy Jayne of Fatal Influence, and we might see Green’s involvement in the segment.
Apart from the Women’s US title match, two more title matches, including appearances from Undisputed Champion CM Punk, Kevin Owens, Cody Rhodes, and Randy Orton, are confirmed for a show. A major dark match featuring Oba Femi and Bron Breakker is also announced.
