Gunther picked up the mic as “CENA” chants erupted, which turned into “WE WANT CENA.” As the Ring General stated that it was his time, and Cena wasn’t going to come here. He stated that by submitting LA Knight, he had achieved one of the greatest accomplishments of his career, as he would be the final opponent in Cena’s last match.

Gunther agreed that Cena was the greatest entertainer of all time, but on Saturday, he would face the best professional wrestler of all time. He then pulled up a countdown timer for Saturday, stating that the fans had this amount of time before addressing Cena directly.

The Ring General stated that he was going to break Cena’s spirit, that he was going to bully him, and choke him out, until the last bit of Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect had left his body, until he forced him to do one thing Cena said he would never do: “Give Up.”

Grade: B+

Moments & Insights:

  • Stellar promo by Gunther, who fits perfectly in the heel character, as he looks to battle Cena in his final match.
  • WWE has put an official countdown for Cena’s final SNME on their website.

Iyo Sky vs Kairi Sane

In the first match of the show, Iyo Sky and Kairi Sane battled in singles action. Rhea Ripley and Asuka were present during the match in their respective corners. Asuka once again caused interference during the match, helping Sane take over.

In the final moments, Sky hit a German suplex on the ring apron, then sprang off the middle rope, taking down Sane at ringside as she went up top. Asuka once again stepped on the apron, attacking Sky. However, Ripley, this time, decided to retaliate with a big boot, sending her crashing into the barrier. Sky then delivered the Over the Moonsault to pin Sane.

Winner: Iyo Sky

Grade: B

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • A predictable outcome, but a nice way to start the show. The fan-favorite duo continues to make their claim at the World Tag Team titles.
  • Backstage, Logan Paul questioned what The Vision would do about Rey Mysterio slapping him last week. When Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed stepped up, Heyman told Logan that, unlike before, he now had backup, and the Mysterio situation would be dealt with tonight. The Wise Man then handed him a pair of brass knuckles for just in case situations.

Logan Paul attacks Rey Mysterio as the masked man reappears

Rey Mysterio made the walk to battle Finn Balor in singles action as Logan Paul attacked him from behind. Logan brought out the brass knuckles, but Rey fought back, ducking the strike. Rey draped Logan over the ropes for a 619, but the hooded masked man from Survivor Series returned, attacking Rey and delivering another stomp.

The masked man then retreated, running away as security chased after him. An official rushed in to check on Rey, while Logan lined up the shot and delivered the Pulverizer, knocking Rey out cold. LA Knight’s music hit, causing Logan to wisely roll out of the ring.

Knight picked up the mic and told Logan to stay right there. Knight stated that if it had been Seth Rollins, he would have stomped Logan’s head. He then went off on Logan for disrespecting a Hall of Famer like Rey Mysterio. Knight demanded that Logan pay right here, right now in KC. He fired up the crowd as everyone awaited a confirmation from GM Adam Pearce, which arrived moments later.

Grade: B+

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Despite the revelation, WWE refused to reveal the masked man on the show, and following his appearance, they continued to hint that the masked man is Seth Rollins.
  • WWE also mentioned Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s nomination for Best Male Actor at the Golden Globe Awards for his role in The Smashing Machine, where he portrayed MMA legend Mark Kerr.

AJ Styles & Dragon Lee (c) vs The War Raiders (Erik & Ivar) – WWE World Tag Team titles match

In their path to remain fighting Champions, AJ Styles and Dragon Lee defended the World Tag Team titles against The War Raiders (Erik & Ivar). The New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods), accompanied by Grayson Waller, were present ringside during the match. The Champions started strong, but the challengers fought their way into the match.

Ivar delivered a Moonsault from the top rope on Lee and went for the pin as Styles saved the match in time. Moments later, Styles took down Ivar with a Phenomenal Forearm to pick up the win and retain the titles. The New Day and Grayson Waller stepped inside the ring as they came face-to-face with Styles and Lee. Just then, Jey Uso’s music hits and he comes out YEETING alongside his brother Jimmy Uso.

Jimmy announced that the Usos were back in the tag team division. Big Jim stated that they had been taking a lot of losses lately, and with Jey’s defeat last week, it had Jimmy thinking about what they were going to do. Jey said they were going to put the tag division on notice.

The Usos mentioned that while Styles and Lee might not know about them, the New Day did, and Jey launched into a promo on the New Day. He then turned to Styles and Lee as the New Day tried to attack them. The Usos took out the New Day, and Grayson Waller found himself alone, wisely retreating. The Usos then faced off against Styles and Lee to end the segment.

Winner & Still: AJ Styles & Dragon Lee

Grade: B+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • The Usos’ return to the tag team division has been a long-time demand from fans, and it will also inject life into the Red brand’s tag team roster.
  • The reunion will also give Jey’s character a path forward, given his stalemate singles career after multiple losses.

Raquel Rodriguez takes out Nikki Bella & challenges Stephanie Vaquer

Jackie Redmond introduced the Women’s World Champion, Stephanie Vaquer, who made her way to the ring. Redmond mentioned Vaquer’s victory over Nikki Bella at Survivor Series and asked who was next for her. Vaquer stated that she wanted to face everyone. While she didn’t speak much, she was the best, and it wasn’t just because of Devil’s Kiss.

Vaquer gave Nikki Bella her respect before acknowledging that today’s women’s locker room is very different, naming Rhea Ripley, Bayley, and Natalya. Vaquer reminded fans who was on top, and at that moment, Nikki Bella appeared, going off on the fans before declaring that she and Vaquer were far from finished. Bella demanded a rematch, but before Vaquer could respond, Raquel Rodriguez stepped in.

She picked Bella up from the apron and sent her crashing into the ring post. Raquel then entered the ring, asking Vaquer to name the time and place, as she would be ready to take the title.

Grade: C+

Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • Rodriguez wore a Houston Texans jersey, a clever move to rile up the Kansas City crowd, especially after their team fell to the Texans 20-10 on Sunday Night Football.
  • Backstage, in the Judgment Day clubhouse, Finn Balor was happy about Logan Paul taking out Rey Mysterio, helping him avoid his match with Rey, while Dominik Mysterio wondered who the masked man could be. Raquel Rodriguez rolled up, and Liv Morgan immediately gave her some flak for not clearing her title intentions with her first. When Raquel pushed back, asking if they had to run everything through her first, Liv backed off. As Raquel left to talk to GM Adam Pearce, Liv gave Roxanne Perez a quick pep talk, mentioning that if Raquel was going after a singles title, it meant they’d be going after the tag titles next.

Lyra Valkyria vs Roxanne Perez

Sol Ruca was shown in the audience as Lyra Valkyria made the walk, accompanied by Bayley, while Roxanne Perez walked out with Liv Morgan. A tremendous start for Valkyria was halted by Perez, who sent her shoulder-first into the steel steps and started to target the injured left arm.

Valkyria fought through pain to mount a comeback and looked to deliver the nightwing when Liv interfered, and Bayley tried to help, but the interference helped Perez, who took out Bayley and then delivered the Pop Rox to pin Lyra for the victory.

Winner: Roxanne Perez

Grade: C+

Match Insights & Backstage Moments:

  • This was Roxanne Perez’s 44th televised match, making her one of the most active competitors this year, according to commentary.
  • Another vignette aired showing Maxxine Dupri training with Nattie (Natalya), where she gained the upper hand this time, submitting opponent after opponent with the ankle lock, eventually making Nattie tap out in the end.

LA Knight vs Logan Paul

In the main event of the show, Logan Paul jumped LA Knight before the bell rang to start the match. Knight initially fought back, but Logan managed to shut down the offense. Another comeback by Knight saw the arrival of Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed, who interfered in the match as soon as Logan got in trouble.

The referee saw the interference and removed Reed and Breakker from the ringside, but as Knight continued to batter on Paul on the announce desk, the mystery man in black appeared again and delivered a stomp to Knight. Logan followed it with a Frog Splash from the top rope to secure the win. Breakker stepped into the ring as Logan lined him up for a vicious Spear from Breakker, signaling that it was time for the Tsunami.

Logan and Breakker held Knight up as Reed delivered two back-to-back Tsunamis. Paul Heyman grabbed the mic, roasting the Kansas City crowd before introducing Bron Breakker, Bronson Reed, and Logan Paul in style during the commercials.

The crowd started to boo as the camera panned backstage, where LA Knight was being escorted to the medical room by WWE staff. Back in the ring, Heyman hyped up the upcoming January 5 episode of Raw, where he claimed Bron Breakker would become the new World Heavyweight Champion.

Breakker picked up the mic and asked where Punk was, and joked that if Punk had been there, they would have seen two back-to-back losses. Bron expressed that he didn’t buy the “new nice guy” CM Punk and, while Punk claimed he didn’t do drugs, he still looked like a crackhead.

Breakker went on, stating he didn’t want to face the “nice guy” Punk, but instead wanted to face the old CM Punk from 2011, the one who evoked fear backstage and took on The Rock. Getting down on his hands and knees, Breakker pleaded for Punk to give him the old version of himself, threatening that if he didn’t get his wish, he’d send Punk to the hospital, take his title, and even take his wife.

The camera panned backstage again, where LA Knight declared that he wasn’t done. Bron Breakker and Logan Paul rushed backstage, with Breakker sending a final message to Punk, declaring it would be Spear, ONE, TWO, THREE!

Logan and Reed began attacking Knight, who tried to fight back, but the numbers game overwhelmed him as Reed slammed him through a table. Knight refused to stay down as the beatdown continued. Reed threw him onto a car hood, and Logan snuck in some vicious knees.

Security tried to intervene, but Reed and Logan took them out. Reed climbed on top of crates while Logan continued the assault, eventually putting Knight on the roof of a car. From the top of the crate, Reed delivered a Tsunami right onto the roof of the car. GM Adam Pearce arrived, yelling for a medic as the show came to an end.

Winner: Logan Paul

Grade: B+
