Roman Reigns is set to defend the World Heavyweight title against LA Knight at the 2026 edition of Money in the Bank in New Orleans on October 10. The match was confirmed after Knight attacked Reigns following his title defense over Penta on Raw in Mexico City this past Monday.
According to Ibou of Self Made Sessions, WWE never seriously considered having Penta defeat Roman Reigns for the World Championship, despite this week’s Raw taking place in Mexico City. However, the promotion has discussed the possibility of LA Knight pulling off a shocking upset against Reigns at Money in the Bank.
The proposed finish could involve Solo Sikoa providing Reigns with a storyline reason to enter a WarGames match against them at Survivor Series in November.
Ibou also noted that the “ultimate goal” is for Roman Reigns to eventually drop the World Championship to Oba Femi at WrestleMania 43 in Saudi Arabia.
“The one idea that was bandied about and talked about was LA Knight potentially beating Roman Reigns in a shock title win, And one of the ideas that was talked about was involving Solo, and then playing into the War Game storyline. That being the catalyst to pull Roman in to a storyline that, at the moment, he’s been avoiding.”
“Like the whole thing that they’re telling right now is Roman’s basically like, ‘I’m not worried about none of these other (superstar) that you guys are fighting. You guys deal with that. I’m The Tribal Chief,'” the insider added.
“And this idea would be that him losing to Knight would then drag him into the whole big conflict. That has been bandied about, so if they are going to do a shock switch, it would probably be with LA Knight.”
Sami Zayn’s title win & WWE in Mexico City
Ibou of Self Made Session also reports that Sami Zayn’s recent Undisputed WWE Championship win over CM Punk is a strategic move designed to ultimately transition the title to Kevin Owens.
When addressing why Owens didn’t win the championship directly from Punk during their recent SmackDown match, Ibou suggested that Zayn is occasionally utilized to navigate backstage politics.
Sami defeated Punk in the main event of the September 11 edition of SmackDown in Mexico City to regain the Undisputed title, kicking off his second World title reign.
Per WrestleVotes, after the huge success in Mexico City, a source revealed that the promotion will absolutely consider bookending next year’s TripleMania event with both Raw and SmackDown once again, to make it a dream destination weekend.

According to the source WrestleVotes on Fightful spoke to, WWE officials have been discussing the U.S. State Department’s recent update from Tuesday, September 15, which places Saudi Arabia at a Level 3 (“reconsider travel”) advisory, with certain regions elevated to Level 4 (“do not travel”).
Despite these travel warnings, the source indicates that the November 7 Crown Jewel event is still expected to proceed as scheduled because WWE remains contractually committed to ESPN for that date.

Women’s NXT Champion Kelani Jordan made her main roster debut this past Monday on Raw in Mexico City. Jordan participated in the triple-threat qualifying match for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match against Lola Vice and Raquel Rodriguez.
