The Ring General has become a dominant force who continues to dismantle opponents!
Since making his debut in WWE with the developmental brand, NXT, ‘The Ring General’ Gunther has showcased his dominance. His first title reign in the promotion as the WWE NXT United Kingdom Champion lasted a total of 870 days.
The Ring General’s title reign came to an end at the hands of Ilja Dragunov. However, he quickly bounced back, showcasing his dominance once again when he was promoted to the main roster. While there were hiccups along the way in tag team matches and such, the Ring General remained undefeated in singles action for the most part.
Let us now take a look at those WWE stars who not only challenged his dominance but were able to defeat him on the main roster.
Chad Gable (2023)
The Ring General’s first loss on the main roster came at the hands of Chad Gable, but it was not a conventional loss as he suffered his first main roster loss via countout.
The Ring General battled Chad Gable with the Intercontinental title on the line on the August 21, 2023, episode of Monday Night Raw, which emanated from the Centre Videotron in Quebec City, Quebec, Canada. The countout loss meant he retained the Intercontinental Championship because titles do not change hands that way.
Sami Zayn (2024)
The Ring General’s first title on the main roster was the Intercontinental Championship, a title which he held for 666 days before losing it at the hands of Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40 in 2024.
On Night 2 of WrestleMania 40, Sami Zayn defied the odds and defeated the longest-reigning Intercontinental Champion for the title. As mentioned, the loss ended Gunther’s 666-day Intercontinental Championship reign, which is the longest reign for the title so far.

Cody Rhodes
‘The American Nightmare’ Cody Rhodes was the third star on the main roster to hand Gunther a humiliating defeat. The two stars met on the 2024 edition of Crown Jewel, which emanated from the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
The Champion vs Champion clash was for the inaugural Crown Jewel Championship. Rhodes defeated the Ring General to win the vacant title and break his undefeated singles streak since WrestleMania 40.
Jey Uso (2025)
Similar to Sami Zayn, Jey Uso was a massive underdog in his World Heavyweight title clash against the Ring General. After winning the 2025 Royal Rumble, Jey picked the World Heavyweight Champion for a clash at WrestleMania 41.
On Night 1 of WrestleMania 41, which emanated from the Allegiant Stadium in Paradise, Nevada, Jey forced the Ring General to tap out to a sleeper hold used frequently by him. The loss shattered the Ring General’s 259-day title reign.

Despite heavy offense from the Champion, Punk refused to quit and managed to deliver the GTS and pin the Champion to win the World title for the first time in 12 years. The title reign, however, didn’t last long for Punk.
