Asian Games 2023 Day 13, October 6, Updated Results: India win gold in men's hockey; silver in bridge, archery
Record 100 medals have been confirmed for India this Asian Games.
India celebrated a historic day at the Asian Games 2023 with a remarkable medal tally of 95 — including 22 gold, 34 silver, and 39 bronze, with seven more guaranteed. The Indian men's hockey team secured its fourth Asian Games title by defeating Japan 5-1 in the final, earning their spot in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Recurve archers broke a 13-year medal drought, with the men's team winning silver and the women's team bringing home bronze. In cricket, the Indian men's team assured a medal on their Asian Games debut by beating Bangladesh in the semi-finals. India also excelled in kabaddi, with the men's team defeating Pakistan and the women's team overcoming Nepal in the semi-finals.
Badminton player HS Prannoy secured a bronze in men's singles, while the duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty advanced to the historic men's doubles gold medal match. In sepaktakraw, the women's regu won bronze, marking India's second-ever medal in the sport and the first in a women's event at the Asian Games.
The men's bridge team improved from their 2018 bronze to win silver. India also remained in silver medal positions in the men's and women's chess team events, with one round to go.
Despite Bajrang Punia's loss, wrestlers Sonam Malik, Kiran Bishnoi, and Aman Sehrawat secured bronze medals, contributing to India's impressive performance at the continental meet. India's medal count was set to surpass the three-figure mark.
