India finished its campaign with 85 medals, including 21 golds
India closed the Asian Games 2026 with five gold medals on the final day. Spearheaded by the men’s hockey and cricket teams’ dominant performances, India also won historic golds in archery, golf and wrestling on Saturday, elevating its medal count to 85 and a fourth place in the overall table.
The men’s hockey team made history with a dominant 5-1 win over Malaysia, giving India back-to-back hockey golds for the first time and sending both the men’s and women’s teams to the LA 2028 Olympics.

The men’s cricket team beat Pakistan by 19 runs, with Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma both scoring fifties, before Hasan Nawaz’s 96 fell short for Pakistan.
Pranavi Sharath Urs became the first individual Indian golfer to win Asian Games gold and later teamed with Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar for team silver.
Archery provided the day’s most dramatic story as 17-year-old Kumkum Mohod became the first Indian to win gold in the women’s individual recurve final before winning gold in a shoot-off against South Korea’s Oh Yejin, thereby sealing a Los Angeles 2028 quota.
Neeraj Chauhan won bronze in the men’s event after beating teammate Dhiraj Bommadevara in the BMM. Wrestling added a gold and a silver as Aman Sehrawat fought back to defeat North Korea’s Chong Song Han, while Antim Panghal took silver.
With the Aichi-Nagoya Games now nearly completed, India finished its campaign with 21 gold, 27 silver, and 37 bronze medals.
After a slow start, the country will be happy with this finish, having secured the fourth position, built on the strength of archery, shooting, boxing, and wrestling across the fortnight.

Japan claimed the men’s water polo gold, defeating Kazakhstan 24-7 in the final, while China took bronze. The host nation also won the women’s softball title, defeating China 7-0, while Chinese Taipei secured bronze.
In breaking, China’s Royal (Guo Pu) won the B-Girls title, while Japan’s Shigekix (Nakarai Shigeyuki) finished on top in the B-Boys event.
In rhythmic gymnastics, China won the group all-around title, ahead of Japan and Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan’s Takhmina Ikromova claimed the individual all-around gold, with China’s Wang Qi and Wang Zilu taking silver and bronze, respectively.

In judo, Japan defeated Kazakhstan 4-0 to win the mixed team final. Japan’s Saki Tsukamoto and Kae Tokumoto won the gold medal in the women’s pairs padel final, defeating Indonesia’s Fitriani Sabatini and Fadona Kusumawati (6-3, 6-4).
Qatar’s Mashari Naif and Rashed Naif took the men’s title, defeating Malaysia’s Christian Didier Chin and Aidan Yunus.
In jiu-jitsu, Saudi Arabia’s Abdullah Tariq Nada won the men’s 85kg title, while Thailand’s Orapa Senatham clinched the women’s 63kg gold. South Korea’s Kim Joohyung topped the men’s golf standings, ahead of Japan’s Kazuki Higa and Thailand’s Sadom Kaewkanjana.
Iran claimed the men’s volleyball title after defeating Japan in the gold medal match, while Pakistan secured bronze by beating China.
In wrestling, Iran’s Yones Emamichoghaei finished on top in the men’s 74kg freestyle, while Amiri Azapira won the 97kg freestyle final.

Japan’s Kota Kurasawa and Taito Mizumachi won bronze in men’s beach volleyball, while Qatar’s Cherif Samba and Ahmed Janko claimed gold.
In the women’s rugby final, Japan defeated China to take the title. Hong Kong won the men’s rugby final against China.
In tennis, Hong Kong, China’s Coleman Wong, won the men’s singles gold, defeating China’s Wu Yibing. Chinese Taipei’s Hsieh Su-wei and Liang En-shuo won the women’s doubles title, while Japan’s Ena Shibahara and Jay Friend finished on top in mixed doubles.
Japan’s Neo Suzuki won the men’s lead sport climbing title, ahead of compatriot Satone Yoshida and South Korea’s Lee Dohyun. South Korea’s Seo Chaehyun claimed women’s lead gold, with Japan’s Ai Mori taking silver and China’s Zhang Youtong bronze.
China extended its tally to 341 medals, including 169 gold, 89 silver, and 83 bronze. Japan remained second with 269 medals, while the Republic of Korea occupied third place with 150 medals.
India climbed to fourth position with 85 medals, overtaking Uzbekistan, who dropped to fifth despite also reaching 21 gold medals. India’s higher silver medal count of 27 vs Uzbekistan’s 25 placed it ahead in the standings.
Iran and Thailand occupied sixth and seventh positions with 51 and 52 medals, respectively.
Kazakhstan, which for most of the duration of the Games found itself in the top 5, will finish at eighth. Meanwhile, Bahrain retained tenth place with 22 medals, while Malaysia slipped to 11th with 32 medals.
