Asian Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 2, September 21
11 countries have won at least one gold so far, with India struggling at #12
India’s shooters kept the medals flowing on Day 2 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, adding four more to the tally and taking the country’s overall count to six.
The men’s 10m air rifle trio of Rudrankksh Patil, Himanshu Dhillon and Parth Mane combined for 1890.1 to win silver in the team event, finishing behind China’s world-record 1899.0 and ahead of South Korea’s bronze-winning total.
Patil and Dhillon then carried that form into the individual final, where Dhillon closed with 252.4 for silver and Patil took bronze, with China’s Olympic champion Sheng Lihao topping the podium.
Suchika Tariyal added a fifth Indian medal of the Games with bronze in the women’s traditional 60kg MMA category after a 0-2 semi-final loss to Singapore’s Hui Hoon Teo.

Beyond the medal rounds, India picked up big wins across team sports. The men’s badminton team swept Bangladesh 3-0 without dropping a game, with Lakshya Sen, Ayush Shetty and Kidambi Srikanth all winning in straight sets.
Both table tennis teams thrashed Pakistan 3-0 to stay unbeaten, while boxer Sumit Kundu opened his campaign with a dominant 5-0 win over Thailand’s Sinsiri Bunjong.
In the pool, Srihari Nataraj finished tenth in the men’s 50m backstroke final, while India’s sepaktakraw regu team lost a close tie to Japan after winning the opening set.

China continued to set the pace across the programme in the Asian Games 2026. In the pool, Wan Letian led a Chinese one-two in the women’s 50m backstroke, touching in 27.47 ahead of teammate Wang Xueer, with South Korea’s Kim Seungwon taking bronze.
Kim Youngbeom of South Korea had earlier broken the Asian Games record in the men’s 50m freestyle heats, giving the host nation’s rivals something to build on through the evening session. Japan and China also shared the early finals in rowing and wushu, with both countries opening their accounts in those disciplines.

Indonesia’s medal count moved into the mid-single digits, built mostly on bronze-medal finishes across combat and team sports, while Kazakhstan continued to add to the golds it picked up on the shooting and cycling ranges over the opening two days.
China maintained a commanding lead at the top of the standings after Day 2, sitting on 23 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze for a total of 38 medals. Hosts Japan held second position with 8 gold, 12 silver and 12 bronze, while South Korea, with 23 medals are currently in third place.
Kazakhstan is positioned fourth with 8 medals overall, including four gold. India’s four silver and two bronze took their tally to six medals; however, the absence of a gold medal keeps them further down the table. Pakistan were off the blocks today as Asim Khan secured bronze in the MMA -60kg category.
With medal events in sports like athletics, wrestling, boxing, squash, cricket, kabaddi and badminton yet to fully open up, there is a lot of action still left to happen, and it remains to be seen how the top-5 shapes up in the coming few days.
