Asian Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 5, September 24

With 80 gold medals, China continues to distance itself from the rest of the field

Day 5 at Asian Games 2026 saw India make steady progress with medals arriving across four different sports. The morning began with rowers Satnam Singh and Salman Khan winning bronze in the men’s double sculls, before Naorem Roshibina Devi added India’s second medal by clinching silver in the women’s 60kg wushu sanda final.

Shooters Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal then picked up bronze together in the mixed team skeet event, finishing just behind South Korea.

The evening session produced two more medals to round out India’s best single-day haul of these Games. Seema won bronze in the women’s 10,000m at the athletics venue, before the mixed 4x400m relay quartet closed the day with silver, improving on the same event’s silver finish at Hangzhou 2023.

Elsewhere, India’s men’s hockey team thrashed South Korea 8-2, and both kabaddi teams reached the semi-finals, with the men beating Chinese Taipei 37-21 along the way.

In squash, Anahat Singh and Tanvi Khanna both won their way into the quarter-finals, meaning India is guaranteed at least one more medal in the discipline.

It wasn’t all good news as boxer Sakshi Chaudhary’s campaign ended with a narrow 3-2 loss to reigning world champion Alua Balkibekova. Fencer Bhavani Devi’s individual sabre run ended in the round of 16 at the hands of China’s Rao Xueyi.

Updated Medal Tally after 24th September at Asian Games 2026

Bahrain’s Winfred Yavi produced the day’s most complete distance-running performance to win the women’s 10,000m in 32:39.18, with Japan’s Nozomi Tanaka taking silver and India’s Seema winning bronze.

In the women’s triple jump, Uzbekistan’s Sharifa Davronova won gold with a personal-best 14.35m, ahead of China’s Huang Yingying.

In table tennis, home team Japan stunned China in the Men’s Team gold medal match, winning 3-2 in a thrilling end. However, the women’s China team settled scores with a one-sided thrashing in the final.

In the women’s 50m freestyle, Wu Qingfeng shattered the Games record to win gold. Bahrain’s Michel Arkhangelskiy finished on top in the men’s 50m butterfly, while Japan’s Kato Kotomi edged past strong rivals from South Korea and China to top the charts in Women’s 200m Breaststroke.

In badminton, the men’s Chinese team was defeated by Indonesia in the gold medal match. The Indonesian team rallied from 0-2 down to win the tie and the gold medal. The women’s Chinese team ensured there were no hiccups, winning 3-0 against Japan.

China’s tally was further bolstered by Zhang Xiaoyu’s win over Roshibina in the sanda final. The country has now built a lead in gold medals that is roughly four times the size of second-placed Japan’s tally.

Japan is set to hit the triple-digit mark in the total medal tally, but its gold count is lesser than what they’d have liked. South Korea and Kazakhstan remain inside the top-4, however, major shuffling has occurred from the fifth position onwards.

After strong showings in combat sports, Uzbekistan broke into the top five, while Iran also moved ahead of Thailand to occupy sixth place. India sits at #15 with just one gold medal, despite winning 16 medals overall.
