Asian Games 2026: Updated medal tally after Day 8, September 27

China have crossed the 200-mark in the medal tally

It was a case of so close yet so far for India on Day 8 of Asian Games 2026, with squash providing the day’s biggest heartbreak.

Both Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh reached their singles finals but were beaten 3-0 by Malaysian opponents, forcing them to settle for silver.

Athletics delivered a stronger overall haul as Sarvesh Kushare took silver in the men’s high jump with 2.25m, Ancy Sojan added silver in the women’s long jump with 6.53m, a result which came as a bitter pill to swallow given she topped the field for the majority of the contest until the second-to-last attempt.

Harita Bhadra won a stunning bronze in the women’s 200m with 23.20s, while Parul Chaudhary claimed bronze in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a national record timing of 9:08.67, and Tejaswin Shankar completed his decathlon with 7,934 points for bronze after topping three of the ten events.

Updated Medal Tally after 27th September at Asian Games 2026

China’s Yang Hao and Lian Junjie won the men’s synchronised 10m platform, while Malaysia’s Enrique Harold and Elvis Clement took silver and South Korea’s Shin Jungwhi and Kim Yeongtaek bronze.

In the women’s synchronised 3m springboard, China once again claimed gold thanks to Chen Yiwen and Chen Jia, ahead of South Korea and Malaysia.

China also won the artistic swimming duet through Lin Yanjun and Xu Huiyun, with Japan and Kazakhstan completing the podium. In baseball, South Korea defeated Japan 3-1 to win the men’s gold, while Chinese Taipei took bronze.

In Kurash, Uzbekistan’s Agojonova Ibadatkhon won the women’s 57kg title, while Bakhtiyorov Shokhrukhkhon secured gold in the men’s +90kg category for Uzbekistan.

China’s Sun Sibei won the women’s BMX freestyle park gold, while Japan’s Ozawa Miharu took silver and China’s Sun Jiaqi bronze. In the men’s event, Japan completed a 1-2 podium finish with China’s Sha Xiaolong settling for bronze.

Japan won the Pokémon UNITE gold medal after defeating Indonesia 3-1 in esports. South Korea’s men’s epee team lost to Kazakhstan 43-42 in the final, while South Korea won the women’s sabre team gold by defeating Japan 45-31.

North Korea continued to dominate weightlifting, winning its sixth gold medal. All its gold medals so far have come in the same discipline, with the latest feat being accomplished by Song Kuk Hyang in the women’s 69kg category.

In table tennis, China triumphed in the men’s doubles final over Japan, while China’s Wang Manyu beat teammate Sun Yingsha in the women’s singles final.

Japan’s Katsuki Hayato won the men’s marathon race walk, with China’s Zhou Yingcheng taking silver and Japan’s Suwa Motofumi bronze.

China also found success in the women’s javelin thanks to Yan Ziyi. Thailand’s Puripol Boonson prevailed in the men’s 200m, China’s Chen Yuanjiang took the men’s 110m hurdles, and Japan’s Fukube Mako won the women’s 100m hurdles.

With two gold medals won in squash, Malaysia entered the top-10 of the medal tally. The top three continue to be separated from the rest of the field with China surpassing the 200-mark.

With no gold medals coming their way today, India dropped from #10 to #12. The country will hope for some success in athletics and shooting on Day 9 (September 28), to extend their gold medal tally and find their way back into the top-10 of the medal table.
