Asian Games 2026 Day 5 Results: Roshibina Devi, athletics star with historic medals, shooting endure mixed day

India sits at 15th place in the medal tally after Day 5 action, with 17 medals

India’s journey in the Asian Games 2026 continues to be topsy-turvy as the day saw mixed results for India. Nonetheless, the contingent clinched five medals, including two in athletics, to take India’s tally to 17 after day 5 in Aichi-Nagoya.

Roshibina Devi won a silver medal in the women’s 60kg Wushu event, to add to a bronze in 2018 and a silver in 2022, makes her first Indian player to win three medals in Wushu. Fans hoped for a gold, but it is tough against her Chinese opponent.

Along with Roshibina, the Indian Rowers of Satnam Singh and Salman brought home the bronze in the men’s double sculls finals. India couldn’t be on the podium in the other four finals they competed on Thursday in Rowing.

India had an impressive start in the Athletics event with Vishal Thennarasu, Vithya Ramraj, Manu Saji and MR Poovamma winning silver in the 4×400 mixed relay event.

It was an incredible run for gold but Bahrain broke the Games record to take the Gold. The fight for silver was extremely tight with Vithya Ramaraj lunging forward in the final 10 metres to retain the silver.

Seema Kumari created history by winning bronze in the women’s 10,000m finals. She had a racing start as she was leading the race at the end of 2000m. But, the Bahrain runner Yavi Winfred increased her speed in the final 2000 to win the race.

Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur made it to the finals of men’s 100m. Pooja Sharma and Anamika Aneesha showed sparks of brilliance in the women’s heptathlon event. Asha Ilango finished fourth in the women’s triple jump event.

She actually tied at 13.83m with Li Yi of China for the bronze medal. But, the Chinese had a good second-best jump of 13.79m when compared to 13.65m of Asha’s jump. It was unfortunate to miss out on the medal.

The Shooting event produced another shocker with India failing to win a medal in the men’s 10m Air Pistol event.

No Indian even made it to the finals of the men’s individual Air Pistol event. Some reprieve with Anantjeet Singh Naruka and Parinaaz Dhaliwal showed immense character to win a bronze in the mixed team skeet event. They knocked out the Qatar pair, who holds the World Record with one half of the pair, won gold in men’s individual finals.

The team events continued to bring big smiles for India. The Men’s hockey team registered a massive 8-2 win over South Korea in the league game. Both men’s and women’s Kabaddi team finished their league stage on top of their respective groups winning their games.

Both teams will look to continue their good run and secure gold in the finals, which scheduled this Saturday.

Squash and Table Tennis also brought get joy for Team India as they won all the matches and progressed to the next round.

Abhay Singh and Veer Chotani won their respective men’s singles round of 16 squash games. Tanvi Khanna and Anahat Singh won their women’s singles match. The draws for women’s singles have made these two face off each other in the quarter-finals.

The winner of the game will be assured of a medal, hence the match will be fiercely competed. The fans saw one such game in the mixed doubles squash with Joshana Chinappa teaming up with Velavan Senthilkumar beat Suraj Chand & Shameena Riaz in the all-India round of 16 match.

Manush Shah won his singles match to move ahead in the men’s singles table tennis match. Both pairs in Diya Chitale / Yashaswini Ghorpade and Sreeja Akula / Syndrela Das won their respective round 2 matches in the women’s doubles event. A win in the next round will take both teams to the quarterfinals.

Both pairs will are scheduled to face Chinese pairs, who are known for their toughness. Another Indian women who faced the a tough Chinese opponent is Fencer CA Bhavani Devi who was India’s first-ever Olympian in Fencing, lost the round of 16 match to Rao Xueyi, who went onto win a bronze.

Shreya Gupta of India failed to get past the round of 16 in the women’s sabre individual event.

An unfortunate injury for Sumit Kundu in the third round bout ended his Asian Games journey. The Boxer who was fighting in the men’s 70kg category was leading after two rounds but a sudden injury forced him out.

Sakshi Chaudhary suffered a tough defeat against a Kazakhstan boxer. While Parveen got a walkover as her Tajikistan opponent failed to show up for the match.

India competed well in the Canoe sprint event but couldn’t make bigger inroads. Paritosh won two and lost two games in the Puyo Puyo Champions event eSports. Pranati Nayak finished 6th in the women’s vault finals. Indian swimmers have competed well but hasn’t challenged any medal winners.

India would be hoping to improve their performances in the coming days if they have moved ahead in the points table.
