Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024 Day 3 Wrap: Gulveer Singh clinches gold, Ankita secures silver

India finished fifth in the medal standings with five medals.
In the men’s 3000m event, India’s Gulveer Singh secured the top position with a remarkable time of 8:07.48, outpacing Keneshbekov Nursultan from Kyrgyzstan and Jalil Naseri from Iran bringing home the fourth gold on the concluding day of the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024.
In the women’s 3000m race, India’s Ankita secured a commendable silver medal with a time of 9:26.22. She finished second to Japan’s Yuma Yamamoto, who claimed the gold with a time of 9:16.71 while Kalil Kyzy Ainuska from Kyrgyzstan secured the third position.
In the women’s pole vault, India’s Baranica Elangovan secured the fifth position with a successful clearance at 3.80 meters. Meanwhile, Pavithra Venkatesh, the silver medalist in last year’s women’s pole vault event, was part of the Indian squad but did not compete in the championship as she arrived back home in New Delhi on Saturday, as the Athletics Federation of India’s attempts to send the poles via cargo proved unsuccessful.
In the men’s 800m event at the championship, India’s Mohammed Afsal Pulikkalaka secured the sixth position with a time of 1:55.16 which proved to be rather disheartening as in the heats, he clinched the top spot with an impressive time of 1:53.54.

India concluded a stellar performance at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2024, with medal-winning athletes standing out. Harmilan Bains secured gold in women’s 1500m while Jyothi Yarraji triumphed in women’s 60m hurdles. Tajinderpal Singh Toor clinched gold in men’s shot put and Gulveer Singh dominated men’s 3000m for another gold. Ankita added to India’s glory with a silver in women’s 3000m.
In the medal tally, China dominated the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships securing the top position with a remarkable total of 13 medals – six golds, six silvers and one bronze. Following closely, Kazakhstan claimed the second spot amassing a total of nine medals including four golds, two silvers and three bronzes. India showcased its rising prominence, securing the third position with a noteworthy tally of five medals consisting of four golds and one silver.
