Many top Indian athletes have confirmed their place in the World Athletics Championships 2025.

The countdown has begun for the 20th edition of the World Athletics Championships scheduled to take place from September 13 to 21, 2025, in Tokyo, Japan.

The event will take place at the iconic National Stadium, which was originally renovated for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. This marks the third time Japan will host the prestigious global meet, following Tokyo in 1991 and Osaka in 2007.

To earn a spot at the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 25, athletes must either meet strict entry standards or rank high enough in the World Athletics global rankings for their event. This dual-route qualification system ensures that only the world’s best players can reach the sport’s biggest stage.

Athletes can qualify by achieving specific performance benchmarks — times, distances, or scores set by World Athletics within a designated qualification period.

Those who don’t meet these direct standards still have a chance through the World Rankings route, which evaluates an athlete’s top performances, the level of competitions they participated in, and the consistency shown over time.

Qualification periods vary by discipline, with longer windows for marathons and race walks, and typically one year for track and field events. As Tokyo prepares to host the world’s finest in athletics, India’s strongest track and field athletes are set to compete at the highest level.
