Kishore Jena finished eighth at Paris Diamond League 2024.
India’s Avinash Sable set a new national record in men’s 3000m steeplechase event with a stunning run at the Paris Diamond League 2024. Sable finished sixth with a record timing of 8:09.91 secs. The previous record was also held by the 29-year-old when he ran 8:11.20 secs in 2022.
Sable was placed fourth at the start of the final lap as he looked to finish strong. Kenya’s Amos Serem was in the lead followed by compatriot Abraham Kibiwot and Abrham Sime of Ethiopia. Serem lost the lead as Sime suddenly paced himself ahead of the pack.
Ethiopian Sime took the gold which required a photo finish as Serem had a late outburst. Meanwhile Sable looked to finish fourth, but Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui of Tunisia and New Zealand’s Geordie Beamish overtook him at the last moment.
Out of the 15 runners who completed the event, eight of them finished with personal bests and five of them recorded their season bests. Sable will look forward to carrying his form at the Paris Olympics 2024.
His performance on the big stage has now kept the expectations higher for Paris. While Sable was embracing his success on the track, Kishore Jena was spearing the Javelin into the air. Jena finished eighth with a throw of 78.10m, with two fouls in five attempts.
The 28-year-old fouled in his third and fourth attempt. He started with a 78.10m throw as it seemed there would be improvements. But Jena could not push it further for a disappointing finish.
Jena will look to regain his composure before Paris Olympics 2024. He has been struggling to find his form since the start of the year. Last year, Jena had achieved his personal best of 87.54m during the Asian Games but today was not his day.
Julian Weber secured the gold medal in the event with a throw of 85.91m. The silver medal went to Anderson Peters and Jakub Vadlejch took the bronze medal. With the end of the Paris Diamond League 2024, athletes will now look forward to competing at the Olympics.
There is hope for the Indian squad as Sable proved his mettle today. Jena too will aim for a comeback at Paris Olympics 2024.
