After a composed win in Ostrava, India’s golden boy eyes next javelin test on home ground.
India’s star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra continued his winning form on track, clinching first place at the Golden Spike meet in Ostrava. With a best throw of 85.29m, Chopra topped a competitive field, extending his strong run this season. While the mark wasn’t his personal best, it was enough to seal victory and add another feather to his growing list of international achievements.
The victory was Chopra’s third of the 2025 season following wins in Paris Diamond League and Potchefstroom invitational meet in South Africa. In addition to these, the two-time Olympic medallist has also breached the long elusive 90m mark, coming in Doha DL where he threw a distance of 90.23m for a second-place finish.
Post-event, Neeraj expressed both satisfaction and honesty. “The crowd was amazing, and the atmosphere was emotional,” he said, referencing the presence of Czech legend Jan Železný, whose achievements inspired Neeraj’s early career. However, the Olympic champion acknowledged that his technique on the day wasn’t perfect.
“I wanted to throw further. I still have more to give,” he added in a media interaction after the event, as quoted by The Hindu.
The Ostrava meet followed his strong showing at the Paris Diamond League just four days prior, where he recorded a best throw of 88.16m. His consistency in back-to-back events demonstrates his fitness and preparation as major tournaments approach in the coming months.

When will Neeraj Chopra be in action next?
Neeraj Chopra’s next competition is set for July 5, 2025, at the NC Classic—a premier World Athletics Continental Tour Gold event—scheduled to take place at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The event, which now carries his name, was originally planned for May but was rescheduled due to India-Pakistan conflict in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
The 27-year-old will headline the meet in front of a roaring home crowd. This marks a special opportunity for Indian fans to watch Chopra compete live on Indian soil—an occurrence that remains rare given his busy international schedule.
“It means a lot to compete at home and inspire the next generation of athletes,” Neeraj said in a statement released ahead of the event.
How has Neeraj Chopra fared in the 2025 season so far?
Neeraj Chopra has had a solid 2025 season, marked by consistent podium finishes and one historic throw. He kicked off his campaign at the Doha Diamond League in May, where he breached the 90-metre mark for the first time in his career with a throw of 90.23m. Although he finished second behind Germany’s Julian Weber, the mark was a massive milestone.
Later that month, he won gold at the Paris Diamond League with an 88.16m effort, showcasing power, form, and control. His Ostrava victory this week adds to his tally, making it two wins out of three appearances this season.
The NC Classic in Bengaluru will be Neeraj’s fifth appearance in 2025, and he’ll look to continue his winning momentum ahead of the World Athletics Championships, scheduled for September later this year. With Chopra already peaking and the NC Classic in Bengaluru just days away, Indian athletics fans have every reason to stay tuned.
