Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, Chirag Shetty back to career-best World No. five in latest BWF doubles rankings
New women's doubles pairing Tanisha/Ashwini enter top 100
India's number one men's doubles pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have matched their career best WR 5, released by BWF (Badminton World Federation) on Tuesday (23 May).
Fondly called as "SatChi", were ranked seventh in the BWF rankings last week and jumped ahead by two spots this week to attain their career best rankings.
2023 season
The Badminton Asia Championships gold medalists had a good start reaching the semi-finals of the maiden BWF tour. Subsequently, Satwik got injured in the second round of the Indian Open which kept him out of action for more than a month. The pair returned back to the BWF tour and took part in the prestigious All England Badminton Championships (losing in the 2nd round).
SatChi created history by winning the gold at the Badminton Asia Championships but faltered in the recently concluded Sudirman Cup 2023 (losing two matches). The pair recently withdrew from the Malaysia Masters (BWF 500) event which is a part of the Paris Olympics Games 2024 qualification cycle. The pair has been influential in taking Indian doubles to greater heights, helping India win the maiden Thomas Cup title in 2022.
In the women's section, newly formed pair of Tanisha Crasto/Ashwini Ponappa entered top 100 (rising 23 places above).
