Malaysia’s contingent will be spearheaded by men’s doubles World Champion Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik. Former top 10 men’s singles player Lee Zii Jia is back from a small break and his experience will help Malaysia hugely at the competition.
Despite taking a self-imposed month-long break, Lee’s previous four competitions had all resulted in first-round losses. But despite his best efforts, his comeback has not gone as smoothly as hoped, as he fell in the first round of the Korea Open and Japan Open in the previous few weeks. The 25-year-old went past the first round under his new coach Wong Tat Meng at the Australian Open earlier this month and further went on to make it to the last four; defeating country mate NG Tze Yong in the process.
However, the former top seeded Malaysian is set to face a stern test in the opening round by taking on fifth seed Jonatan Christie. On the other hand, top ranked Malaysian shuttler NG Tze Yong will take on China’s Zhao Jun Peng in the opener.
