PV Sindhu is under protected rankings due to long-term injury.
The recently released BWF rankings remained steady as there were no major changes in the positions of all the five categories. From India’s point of view, HS Prannoy and Satwik-Chirag continued to remain in the top 10 position in men’s singles and doubles rankings respectively. Both shuttlers retained their positions from the previous week rankings.
Former world junior silver medallist, Lakshya Sen, continued to remain in 17th position followed by Kidambi Srikanth in the 23rd spot. In women’s singles, PV Sindhu retained the 11th spot and has protected ranking locked at WR-10.
As mentioned previously, she is likely to return back to action in February next year post her recovery from injury sustained at French Open 2023. Apart from Sindhu, Aakarshi Kashyap remains the only Indian to stay in top 50.
Meanwhile, 2012 Olympic medallist, Saina Nehwal, has jumped down to 91st spot. Korea Masters 2023 runner-up, Tomoka Miyazaki from Japan jumped 25 spots ahead to WR-50. The teenager made her maiden entry to the final of a BWF 300 tournament last week.
Apart from Satwik-Chirag in the men’s doubles, none of the other pairs have shown positive signs this year. Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun remain at WR-41 with the latter recovering from a back injury. Unlike 2022 season, the pair has not found much success this year.
Last year, they were just a round away from medalling at the World Championships and were constantly positioned inside the top 20s.
In the women’s doubles, the young women’s doubles pairing of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand continue to hold on to the top-20 position. The pair has not played any tournament post Asian Games 2023 and apart from the All England Championships, they have not produced any major results.
