Li Shifeng achieves career-best position in latest BWF rankings

Currently two Chinese male shuttlers feature in the top 10.
Chinese men’s badminton player Li Shifeng has achieved his highest career ranking in the latest BWF rankings. With 81,948 points, he is holds the third position in the BWF men’s ranking followed by Jonatan Christie of Indonesia with 81,871 points.
Viktor Axelsen of Denmark with 101,355 points and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia with 86,611 points currently hold the first two spots respectively. In the recently concluded BWF French Open 2023, Li Shifeng entered the final and had to settle for a runner-up position after losing to Jonatan Christie.
The Chinese defeated Malaysia’s NG Tze Yong in straight games with a score line of 21-17 and 21-12 in the semifinal round to cement his place in the final of the French Open 2023.
In the final match, Li Shifeng started the proceedings on a positive note as he won the first game with 21-16 points. In the following games, Jonatan Christie fought back well and won the game with 15-21 points. With the match being leveled, the third and deciding game opened with a fierce contest between both the players.

Unfortunately, in the end, Li Shifeng had to end his campaign as a finalist as Jonathan Christie emerged as the victor with a score of 21-18, securing the French Open 2023 title.
The Chinese player has been exhibiting remarkable performance on the badminton court in 2023. Thus far, he has reached the finals of five BWF World Tour tournaments. However, he has only managed to secure only two titles – the All England Open and the US Open.
Moreover, he has also won the gold medal at Asian Games 2023 held in Hangzhou, China by defeating compatriot Shi Yuqi, who is the other player along with Li in the top ten BWF Badminton rankings. Shi Yuqi is at seventh rank with 76,874 points.
