Detailed performance over the year

Sub-par start to the year

Goh Jin Wei commenced the year by taking part in the Malaysia Open and secured victory in her inaugural match against Germany’s Yvonne Li with a score of 21-11 and 21-18. However, she experienced a defeat in the subsequent round against An Se Young of South Korea, with a score of 10-21 and 12-21.

In the India Open, she faced strong opposition from Thailand’s Ratchanok Intanon, resulting in an early exit from the competition with scores of 13-21 and 11-21. While she successfully advanced to the second round in the German Open, her performance waned in the All England Open, where she was eliminated in the initial round. Despite achieving a second round finish in the Swiss Open and participating in the Asia Championships, she was unable to improve her performance overall.

Sudirman Cup

In the Sudirman Cup, she advanced to the quarter-final round for the first time this year in any tournament. During the round-robin phase, she secured a victory against India’s PV Sindhu with a score of 14-21, 21-10 and 22-20, however, faced a defeat against former world champion from Chinese Taipei, Tai Tzu Ying, with scores of 8-21 and 10-21.

In the quarterfinals, even after putting up a strong fight, she ultimately lost the match to Denmark’s Mia Blichfeldt with scores of 14-21, 21-15 and 19-21.

Series of first-round exits

After delivering an improved performance in the Sudirman Cup, Goh endured a prolonged period of stagnation. This was evidenced by her consecutive first-round exits in eight subsequent tournaments Malaysia Masters, Thailand Open, Singapore Open, Indonesia Open, Taipei Open, Korea Open, Japan Open, and Australia Open.

Hong Kong Open

Goh Jin Wei’s best performance in the year came in the Hong Kong Open where she reached semifinals. After a win in the opening round and a walk-over in the second round, she comfortably reached the quarterfinals. She competed against Han Yue of China and emerged victorious with a score of 12-21, 21-17, and 21-18. However, she was unable to surpass Zhang Yi Man of China in the semifinal round and was defeated in straight games with scores of 14-21 and 11-21.

Asian Games

In the Hangzhou Asian Games, Goh Jin Wei, advanced to the round of 16 by securing consecutive victories in the initial rounds. Her triumphs included a decisive win against Ghazala Siddique of Pakistan in the round of 64, followed by a victory over Thi Anh Thu Vu of Vietnam in the round of 32.

However, her journey at the tournament was halted in the round of 16 by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung of Indonesia, with scores of 6-21 and 12-21.

China Masters

Goh Jin Wei’s last tournament was the China Masters where she was eliminated in the second round by China’s Chen Yu Fei by 9-21 and 16-21. She also took part in the Denmark Open and French Open prior to competing in the competition. Regrettably, she suffered defeats in the initial round in both these tournaments.
