Malaysia has been dominant in tournament history, having claimed a total of 117 titles
In the dynamic realm of badminton, the Malaysia Open stands out as a prominent stage where the world’s top shuttlers showcase their potential on the BWF circuit. Over the years, the tournament has witnessed remarkable performances, unforgettable matches, and the crowning of champions who have left a mark in the sport.
Drawing the attention of many top-class players worldwide, it’s a competition where athletes vie for a substantial total prize pool of $13,00,000.
BWF Malaysia Open stands as one of Asia’s most prestigious badminton tournaments, offering not just the chance to compete for the title but also to earn crucial ranking points ahead of BWF World Tour Finals. The Malaysia Open is an annual badminton tournament that has been held since 1937. It has been played in various locations such as Johor Bahru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, Penang, Selangor, and Kuantan.
The event’s annual pattern was interrupted three times: from 1942 to 1946, because of World War II, from 1969 to 1982, and from 2020 to 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It became one of the BWF Super Series tournaments from 2007 to 2017 known as the Malaysia Super Series. BWF categorized the Malaysia Open as one of the five BWF World Tour Super 750 events in the BWF events structure since 2018. Since 2023, it has become a Super 1000 tournament.
The 2024 Malaysia Open (officially known as the Petronas Malaysia open 2024 for sponsorship reasons) is the 67th edition of the prestigious badminton tournament that will take place at the Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 9 to 14 January 2024 and has a total prize of $13,00,000.
