The European Championships are one of the biggest non-BWF World Tour Tournaments.

The Badminton European Championships 2025 is a premier event in the European badminton circuit, bringing together the continent’s top players to compete for the prestigious title. While this tournament is not officially part of the BWF World Tour, it holds significance due to its high-ranking points allocation.

The championship offers Super 1000-level ranking points, making it vital for players aiming to boost rankings and qualify for the Olympics and BWF World Tour Finals.

This year, former champion Viktor Axelsen and reigning champion Carolina Marin, who have dominated the tournament for the past few years, have withdrawn. Viktor has undergone back surgery, making him withdraw from the BEC. He had also withdrawn from the tournament in 2021 when he reached the finals, due to COVID, and last year, due to an illness in the second round.

On the other hand, Marin is a 7-time BEC champion as well as the 2023 European Games champion. Her withdrawal opens up the women’s singles draw. Line Kjærsfeldt, Mia Blichfeldt, and Kirsty Gilmour will be hoping to win their maiden European Championships.

Beyond the prestigious title and ranking points, the tournament also offers a substantial total prize pool of $500,000. Below is a detailed breakdown of how ranking points and prize money are distributed across different stages of the tournament.

Points on offer:

Since the tournament follows a Super 1000-like point system, players who progress through different stages will earn ranking points as per the BWF regulations. The following table outlines the ranking points awarded at each phase of the event:

A victory at the European Championships will award the winner 12,000 ranking points, which is the highest possible for a continental event.

The runner-up will be awarded 10,200 points. The semi-finals will secure 8,400 points, which is more than what is awarded for winning a Super 500 event. The quarter-finalists will receive 6,600 points, while players reaching the Round of 16 can still earn 4,800 points.

Additionally, players who exit in the early rounds are not left empty-handed. Those who make it to the Round of 32 will get 3,000 points, while even those eliminated in the Round of 64 will receive 1,200 points.

Prize pool:

With a total prize fund of $500,000, the Badminton European Championships 2025 is one of the richest continental badminton tournaments. The prize money is distributed according to BWF rules.

The singles champions in both men’s and women’s categories will take home a whopping $35,000, making it one of the most rewarding badminton tournaments outside of the BWF World Tour. This amount is significantly higher than most continental events.

The runner-up in singles will earn $17,000. Even semi-finalists, who fall just short of the final, will walk away with $7,000. The prize money for players reaching the quarter-finals is $2,750, while players reaching the Round of 16 will receive $1,500.

Even those eliminated in the first round (Round of 32) will receive $500, ensuring every participant gets something for their efforts.

The prize money in the doubles event is slightly higher. The winning pair will receive $37,000, which will be split between the two players. The runner-up duo will take home $17,500, while semi-finalists receive $7,000 per pair. Even reaching the quarter-finals is financially rewarding, with $3,125 awarded per pair.

The Badminton European Championships 2025 offers one of the best opportunities for European players to gain top-tier ranking points and earn substantial prize money. With Super 1000-level points on offer and a significant $500,000 prize pool, the tournament holds immense value for competitors looking to establish themselves at the highest level.
