The Commonwealth Games 2026 closing ceremony will take place on Sunday night, August 2, officially bringing the multisport event to an end. Almost three thousand athletes from 74 Commonwealth nations have taken part in the event, competing in 215 events across 10 sports.

Australia currently lead the medal standings with 137 medals, followed by England (87 medals) and Canada (54 medals). Indian athletes have won 30 medals so far, with the nation currently sitting in sixth place in the medal table.

Apart from the historic medal-winning performances at the Glasgow Games across weightlifting, boxing, athletics, para-athletics, and judo, among others, India will also have a strong cultural footprint in the closing ceremony on Sunday.

What will Commonwealth Games 2026 closing ceremony feature?

Since the next CWG will be hosted in Ahmedabad, the Glasgow Games closing ceremony will begin with the official handover of the Commonwealth Games flag from Scotland to Ahmedabad. This will mark the start of India’s journey as hosts of the CWG 2030.

The ceremony will include an “India Handover Segment”, expected to last for 20 minutes and divided into three acts. The opening act will be a celebration of 150 years of “Vande Mataram”, and will be led by former Miss World Manushi Chhillar and a large dance ensemble.

The second act will be a collaboration between Indian sitar player Rishab Rikhiram Sharma and Scottish piper Ross Ainslie, mixing the cultural heritage of the two host nations. The final act will be a tribute to the state of Gujarat, with Shankar Mahadevan performing with his sons, Siddharth and Shivam, joined by Bhoomi Trivedi.

Australian pop star Delta Goodrem will perform in her third CWG closing ceremony, having previously performed at the Melbourne 2006 and Gold Coast 2018 Games.

Apart from her, the other artists who are scheduled to perform include Simple Minds, Cammy Barnes, BEMZ, Sandi Thom, Shereen Cutkelvin, Elephant Sessions, George Bowie, and dance group Diversity.
