Yash Vir Singh bettered his personal best by more than two meters
Nobody saw this coming as Yash Vir Singh, the least-fancied of India’s three javelin finalists, produced the moment of the night at the Scotstoun Stadium, rescuing a bronze medal out of nowhere with his last throw of the competition at Commonwealth Games 2026.
The 24-year-old’s route to the podium was anything but smooth. He had scraped into the 12-man final with 78.36m in the qualifying round, finishing in the tenth position.

In the final itself, things looked even shakier as he began with a foul, and even his improved second attempt of 78.55m left him languishing in eighth.
A 81.33m effort in round three lifted him to sixth, and ensured he finishes in the top eight. But another foul in the fourth round meant he was still outside the medals with two throws left.
Then, under real pressure and with the wind picking up, Yash Vir Singh delivered a career-best 85.41m on his final attempt.
This was more than enough to leapfrog three rivals in one go and snatch bronze right at the death. To be able to produce your personal best at such a prestigious multi-sports event, when the stakes are at an all-time high speaks volumes about the 24-year-old Indian’s mindset.

Neeraj Chopra settled for silver with 85.83m, returning to the Commonwealth podium for the first time since his gold in 2018 Gold Coast, while Rohit Yadav missed out on a medal, finishing seventh with 81.56m.
History was also created by eventual gold medallist Rumesh Pathirage, who scored a stunning 89.75m throw, which sealed the gold medal for Sri Lanka.
