3 players LSG should retain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction Ft. Mayank Yadav
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) finished seventh on the points table in IPL 2024.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) made their Indian Premier League (IPL) debut in 2022, and started off their journey well by reaching the playoffs in two consecutive seasons, though they failed to push themselves into the final both times. In their third season in 2024, the KL Rahul-led side finished seventh in the standings.
LSG have gathered a really good set of T20 players and they would want to retain the best of them ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. LSG have experienced and high-quality players in both the batting and bowling departments. So in the mega auction, they would be looking to strengthen their squad and add depth rather than have a revamp.
The IPL has announced that each franchise can retain up to six players through retentions and Right To Match (RTM) option, with a maximum of five capped players and a maximum of two uncapped players.
In this article, we will discuss the three possible retentions for Lucknow ahead of the mega auction.
3 players LSG should retain ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction
1. Mayank Yadav
Delhi-born pacer Mayank Yadav needed just one match to force the world to take notice of him as he clocked over 150 KPH straightaway. His pace was so searing that he knocked over the stumps and hurried the shots of some of the finest batters in the league.
Mayank started his journey by delivering two consecutive Man of the Match award-worthy performances, during which he bowled the fastest delivery of IPL 2024. A couple of injuries have troubled him in the last few months but expect India’s newest young pace sensation to be retained by the Super Giants.
2. Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran is among the most destructive power hitters in white-ball cricket. He is one of the most sought-after players in the franchise leagues globally.
He has scored more than 800 runs in two seasons for LSG at a strike rate of almost 175. That’s what you need—a batter with the ability to win games from anywhere.
Apart from being a wicket-keeper and a monstrous T20 batter, LSG have more reasons to retain Pooran as one of their top picks. If Lucknow and KL Rahul part ways ahead of the mega auction, then Pooran is a suitable candidate to be the franchise’s new captain.
3. Ayush Badoni
LSG may retain young Ayush Badoni ahead of the mega auction. Badoni has been an underrated performer for LSG in the last three editions. He has scored 634 runs at a strike rate close to 135, with four half-centuries.
He had a spectacular season in the Delhi Premier League 2024, where he led South Delhi Superstarz to lift the title and scored 522 runs at a strike rate of 225. Badoni showed his full range as a top-order batter in the DPL, which will give his IPL franchise an option to try him in the top four.
