Asia Cup T20 2025 will feature eight teams.

According to a recent report in Cricbuzz, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has tentatively scheduled the Asia Cup for September 2025. Asia’s premier cricket tournament, which will be played in T20 format this year, will feature up to 19 games and is expected to be played between the second and fourth week of September.

The tournament was originally allotted to India as hosts, but it will be shifted to a neutral venue due to political tensions between India and Pakistan.

The venue for the tournament is under consideration, with the ACC reportedly looking at Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as possible destinations.

The decision to hold the tournament outside India is to avoid any controversy. Earlier, India refused to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, leading the PCB to demand a similar arrangement for next year’s T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC).

Just like the last edition, the eight teams will be divided into two groups, with India and Pakistan placed in the same group. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage.

In the Super Four stage, each team will play against the others once, with the top two advancing to the final. The format could potentially offer fans three India-Pakistan clashes—one in the group stage, one in the Super Four, and one in the final.

The last Asia Cup was held in 2023 where India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and Bangladesh qualified for the Super Four stage. India and Sri Lanka finished as the top two teams in the Super Four to reach the final.

India made history in the final by bowling out Sri Lanka for just 50 runs and then chasing down the target in just 6.1 overs with 10 wickets left.
