Jasprit Bumrah has so far picked up 24 wickets in the ongoing BGT 2024-25.
Jasprit Bumrah was once again the star for India on a hard-fought first day of the Boxing Day test in Melbourne. However, his start to the day was far from ideal, as he failed to give India a breakthrough in his opening spell and conceded 34 runs.
Bumrah was taken on early by Australia’s 19-year-old debutant Sam Konstas, who entertained the fans by hitting three ramp shots off Bumrah’s over. Konstas’ aggressive approach allowed Usman Khawaja at the other end to score his first half-century of the series.
Just as the Indian shoulders began to drop, Bumrah returned after the tea break in his third spell. He dismissed Travis Head for a duck and then Mitchell Marsh for four, bringing India back into the contest.
Even after a rough start, the Indian speedster finished the day with impressive bowling figures of 3/75. His three-wicket haul today has helped him reach a remarkable milestone, surpassing one of the all-time greats, Anil Kumble.

Bumrah now stands as the most successful Indian test bowler at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The 31-year-old pacer has now taken 18 test wickets at an average of 15.05 surpassing Anil Kumble’s tally of 15 wickets at the venue.
Bumrah’s best bowling figures at the iconic ground came in 2018, when he claimed 6/33 in the Boxing Day test, helping the visitors secure a remarkable 137-run victory.
With Australia finishing the first day at 311/6, Indian captain Rohit Sharma will hope for Bumrah to work his magic again tomorrow. India will aim to bowl out Australia for less than 400 to give themselves a chance in the second innings. Steve Smith (68) and Pat Cummins (8) are at the crease for the hosts.
