Jasprit Bumrah has taken four wickets in the second innings of the fourth BGT 2024-25 test.

The fourth day of the Boxing Day test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) was filled with ups and downs for both sides. Starting the day with a 105-run lead, Australia lost their way in the second innings to collapse to 94/6.

Jasprit Bumrah led India’s attack with a four-wicket haul. The Indian vice-captain was well-supported by Mohammed Siraj, who bounced back from being wicketless in the first innings to claim three wickets on Sunday.

Australia’s fightback came through Marnus Labuschagne (70) and Pat Cummins (41), who combined for a 57-run partnership for the seventh wicket. However, the real frustration for India came in the final hour of the day, with Nathan Lyon and Scott Boland displaying remarkable resistance to put on an unbeaten 55-run stand for the last wicket.

India turned to Bumrah to bowl the final over of the day in desperate need of a wicket. The 31-year-old speedster struck, finding Lyon’s outside edge, with KL Rahul managing to take a sharp catch between his legs. However, to add to India’s agony, Bumrah overstepped and the ball was called a no-ball.

India will aim to bowl out Australia quickly and will rely on experienced players – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli to lead the run chase. The pitch has been favourable for batting, and the first 30 overs will be crucial for India in the chase.
