Ashwani Kumar became the third MI bowler to take a wicket on his first ball ever on IPL debut.

Playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) is a dream come true for any budding cricketer. Future cricket players can use the IPL as a platform to establish themselves and realize their goal of playing for their country internationally.

Over the years, the Indian team has seen several cricket players emerge from the IPL and excel on the global scene, eventually joining the squad as regulars. Players must be rigorous in T20 cricket, whether they are using the bat or the ball.

Although a number of well-known players are well-known for giving their teams the start they want, some domestic players are overlooked, even when they do noteworthy feats.

Today, we will check out the bowlers who have picked a wicket on their first delivery on their IPL debut.

A total of 10 bowlers have taken a wicket on maiden delivery on IPL debut

The first-ever bowler to achieve this feat was Ishant Sharma in IPL 2008. He then played for the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the opening match of the 2008 IPL, Ishant Sharma, bowling the second over of the RCB chase, clean bowled their captain, Rahul Dravid, to set up the game for his team.

The second bowler ever to join this list was Wilkin Mota, who played for Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in IPL 2008. Mota made headlines when he dismissed Chennai Super Kings player Suresh Raina with his maiden delivery.

Shane Harwood, Amit Singh, and Charl Langeveldt recorded wickets with their first balls in the 2009 opening match. They dismissed Azhar Bilakia, Sunny Sohal, and Rob Quiney respectively.

Ali Murtuza was the first MI bowler to achieve this feat in the IPL. He dismissed Naman Ojha in IPL 2010 against the Rajasthan Royals. Then, in IPL 2012, Delhi Daredevils’ (now Delhi Capitals) TP Sudhindra dismissed CSK’s Faf du Plessis on the first ball of his IPL career.

West Indies pacer Alzarri Joseph took a wicket on the first ball of his IPL debut in 2019. He dismissed David Warner of SRH in that edition. Matheesha Pathirana made a grand debut for CSK in IPL 2022 when he dismissed the Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill on his very first delivery in IPL.

And the latest entrant is Ashwani Kumar, who, on debut for MI in IPL 2025, dismissed KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane on his very first ball of the career.
