Steve Smith registered his 35th test hundred during the first test against Sri Lanka.

Stuck on 9,999 runs since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Steve Smith finally reached the 10,000-run mark against Sri Lanka in the first test at Galle.

Having not scored a test hundred between June 2023 to November 2024, Smith has now scored three centuries in the last 50 days.

The stand-in skipper was at his best in the first innings in Galle, scoring 141 off 251 balls with 12 fours and two sixes. His footwork against the Sri Lankan spinners stood out, helping him rotate the strike with ease.

Former Australia opener David Warner has shared his admiration for Smith, saying his dedication and hard work have been key to his long test career.

Speaking to Fox Cricket, Warner highlighted Steve Smith’s love for batting and his dedication to spending long hours in the nets. He stressed that it’s no fluke that Smith is still playing, crediting his success to the hard work he puts in.

Warner said, “He is an absolutely amazing cricket player and he just works hard. He literally has cricket ball sandwiches. Early in his career, he would be the first in the nets and the last in the nets. You just knew when Steve was hitting a lot of balls, he was on. It is not by fluke that he is still playing,
