Fans react as BCCI extends Rahul Dravid’s contract as Indian cricket team's head coach

Rahul Dravid will continue as Indian team’s head coach along with his support staff.
In good news for Indian cricket, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), on November 29, 2023, announced that that the board has extended the contracts of Indian head coach Rahul Dravid and the support staff.
While the BCCI did not specify the duration of the extension, it will be at least until the 2024 T20 World Cup in June. The BCCI wanted Dravid to continue in order to maintain the system he had put in place over the previous two years, which would otherwise be disturbed under a new coach.
Dravid was appointed head coach in November 2021 for a two-year contract that ended earlier this month with the conclusion of the 2023 ODI World Cup.
While India have moved to the top of the Test, ODI, and T20I rankings under Dravid’s coaching, they are yet to win an ICC trophy, ending as semi-finalists in the 2022 T20 World Cup and runners-up in the 2023 World Test Championship and 2023 ODI World Cup.
India’s performance in the ODI World Cup was exceptionally impressive: they won all nine league games and the semi-final before falling to Australia in the final.
Last two years with Team India have been thoroughly memorable: Rahul Dravid
Dravid’s first assignment in his second stint as head coach will be India’s tour of South Africa, which starts with three T20Is and three ODIs from December 10 followed by two Tests, in Centurion (from December 26) and Cape Town (from January 3). India then will play a five-match Test series against England at home, before the T20 World Cup in June.
The BCCI has also extended the terms for India’s support staff: Vikram Rathour (batting coach), Paras Mhambrey (bowling coach), and T Dilip (fielding coach).
Social media was abuzz after BCCI made the announcement of Rahul Dravid continuing as the Indian team head coach. Fans shared their thoughts on X about this news.
