After a thumping win over the USA, England have qualified for the semi-finals of ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
England speedster Chris Jordan registered a hat-trick as the defending champions bowled out co-hosts United States of America (USA) for just 115 runs in the Super 8 (Group 2) clash at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 23.
It was a brilliant display of bowling by the English bowlers as they rattled the United States batting line-up. Chris Jordan became the first English pacer to claim a hat-trick in T20Is. The veteran speedster achieved this historic feat in the 19th over of the USA’s innings.
After opting to field first, Jordan picked up a four-wicket haul, whereas seamer Sam Curran and leg-spinner Adil Rashid took two wickets each as the defending champions bundled out the USA for 115. For the USA, Nitish Kumar (30) and Corey Anderson (29) added valuable runs with the bat, while the rest of the batters failed to convert their starts.
During the chase, England skipper Jos Buttler dismantled the United States bowling line-up. Buttler showed his class by smashing 83 runs off just 38 deliveries, which included six boundaries and seven sixes. His opening partner Phil Salt remained unbeaten on 25 runs as the defending champions chased down the target inside 10 overs.
With this thumping victory, the Jos Buttler-led England became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
