The New Zealand vs Pakistan game will decide the second semi-finalists from Group A in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

The Indian cricket team suffered a nine-run loss against Australia on Sunday evening in Sharjah and their hopes of reaching the semi-finals of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 took a huge dent.

But the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side are still in the race for a spot in the semi-finals, competing with New Zealand and Pakistan, while Australia became the first team from Group A to make it to the semis of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

It was a close encounter between India and Australia that finished in the last over, with Annabel Sutherland successfully defending 14 runs as Harmanpreet Kaur’s 54* (47) went in vain.

There is only one match in Group A now left, which involves Pakistan meeting New Zealand in Dubai on Monday, October 14. The result of this match will decide the second semi-finalist from Group A.

Can India still qualify for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 semi-finals after losing to Australia?

Yes, despite the loss to Australia, India can still qualify for the semi-finals if Pakistan beat New Zealand. If New Zealand win against Pakistan, the Black Ferns will enter the semi-final.

India have four points in four games and New Zealand also have four points in three games. India’s NRR is better than New Zealand’s.

So, if New Zealand defeat Pakistan, they reach the semis. Pakistan are alive in the semi-final race, too. Fatima Sana’s team has two points in three games and they can push for a three-way tie at four points if they win on Monday night in Dubai.

For Pakistan to qualify for the semi-finals, they need to beat New Zealand by a margin of 53 runs or 9.1 overs, considering 150 as the first innings total.
