IPL 2023: Disappointed Rohit Sharma's search for momentum continues
Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians lost 2nd consecutive game of the IPL 2023.
Once again Mumbai Indians left the field empty handed as Chennai Super Kings beat five-time Champions Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium by 7 wickets. Mumbai Indians' middle order could not make use of the start given by their openers and lost wickets in quick successions. They failed to build big partnerships in middle overs for MI. Ravindra Jadeja and Mitchell Santner’s spin twin bagged 5 wickets among them. Chennai chased down the target of 158 runs in a very convincing manner. Ajinkya Rahane became the star of the CSK’s chase with his quick inning of 61 runs in 27 balls smashing 7 fours and 3 sixes. CSK chased down the target in the 18th Over.
Rohit Sharma puts onus on Middle Order for the loss
Disappointed with another loss, MI captain Rohit Sharma looked dejected in the post match presentation. Rohit blamed the middle order for not making enough runs on the board. He said, “We lost our way in the middle, did not capitalise on the start. It was a good pitch but we were 3-40 runs short in the middle”. Rohit also said, “We know the nature of the IPL, we just need some momentum and if you do not get it, It is going to be tough”. MI have had a disappointing IPL since the previous season.
CSK eyeing for a playoff spot with two back to back wins
After winning the all important clash of the titans against MI in the IPL 2023, MS Dhoni looked confident about the team's progress. Dhoni said, “All the games are important, The first target is to win an away game and get to the qualifier. Important to look at the problems in front of you, get wins and gather points”. Talking about Rahane, He said, “He is not someone who will hit sixes but he is very sound technically. Happy the way he batted”. He also said that they have made Rahane’s role clear since day one of the training.
Ravindra Jadeja finds Santner as partner in crime
All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was adjudged Player of the Match for his bowling performance. Jadeja was also happy with his performance. He also credited his partner in Bowling Mitchell Santner, who picked up 2 wickets as well. Crediting Santner, Jadeja said, “I and Mitch just spoke and looked to bowl in good areas. They have power hitters so we could have gone for runs… whoever bowls at the start lets the other know about the tactics''. Both Jadeja and Santner bowled 8 overs in combination giving only 48 runs and bagging 5 wickets.
