6 all-rounders who can come in as replacement in IPL 2024

Players who remained unsold in the IPL 2024 auction will be eligible to join as replacements.

The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) will begin on March 22. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will defend their title in the competition. All teams are ready to showcase their strengths in the upcoming season. The IPL 2024 auction changed the equations for many teams as a total of 77 players got a deal during the event.

However, there were a few big names that went unsold and didn’t get a buyer. But still, some of them can feature in the coming season. An IPL season is usually pretty long, and it happens sometime that a player gets injured and has to be ruled out, which forces a team to find a replacement. There are some brilliant all-rounders who can also make the cut as a replacement, which we will talk about.

Here are the six all-rounders who can come in as a replacement in IPL 2024:

1. Jason Holder

Former West Indies captain Jason Holder is a genuine all-rounder. He has been part of a few IPL teams till now. Holder is a brilliant bowler in the shorter format. He bowls well in death overs as well. Adding to that, his height and big reach make him a hard-hitting batter as well. Hence, if required, he can be a perfect replacement for a player.

2. James Neesham

Veteran Kiwi all-rounder James Neesham is another genuine all-rounder who went unsold during the IPL 2024 auction. But, he can make a comeback if required, as a replacement. Neesham has immense experience playing in various T20 leagues around the world. In the IPL, he has so far played 14 matches in the IPL for various teams and has scored 92 runs and taken eight wickets. Neesham can bat anywhere and bowl a few good overs, which makes him a versatile all-rounder to have.

3. Dwaine Pretorius

Former South African all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius made his IPL debut in 2022 for CSK and was part of the team in the last season when they won the tournament. However, the franchise released him ahead of the auction and he went unsold. Pretorius is a bowling all-rounder who is a bankable bowler. He can also be used as a pinch hitter, like MSD did in a few IPL games.

4. Daniel Sams

Looking at the current form, Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams is another good option to have for a team. Sams has been playing in various T20 leagues across the world and has done well with the bat and ball. He has established himself as a match-winner in both departments. He has played 16 IPL games, has 14 wickets and is a brilliant death bowler. He can add a good all-round option for teams.

5. Michael Bracewell

Kiwi all-rounder Michael Bracewell made name for himself when he smashed Kiwi’s fastest ODI ton against India during a match when Shubman Gill scored his maiden ODI double hundred. As a result, RCB signed him as a replacement player. He played five games and took six wickets in 2023. But later, he was released by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. But with his capabilities, he can be a great pick among the teams as a replacement to an injured player in the IPL 2024.

6. Matthew Short

Australia spin-bowling all-rounder Matthew Short was part of the Punjab Kings last season. He played six matches for the franchise and scored 117 runs at the top. Since then, he has made his international debut and was also part of a successful BBL season. Short is a pretty-handy spin bowler, who bats in the top order. He can provide some useful options to a team with both the bat and the ball and can be a handy pick to have as a backup in the IPL 2024.
