Jasprit Bumrah has been out of action since the conclusion of BGT 2024-25.
Five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have suffered a massive blow as their premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will need more time to return to the field. The MI pacer was earlier expected to join the side in April.
However, the right-arm pacer will now need more time for recovery with his back injury. Notably, Bumrah sustained a lower back injury during the fifth match of Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25 in Sydney earlier this year. Since then, he has been ruled out of the game. He also missed out ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which India eventually won.
The right-arm pacer played in all five test matches during the BGT 2024-25 and suffered an injury in the Sydney test. Interestingly, he was named Player of The Series of BGT 2024-25, which India lost 1-3. The star pacer clinched 32 wickets in five games in what can be termed as a one-man show.
Jasprit Bumrah might be back in mid-April: BCCI sources
According to the latest updates, Bumrah will be back in IPL 2025 in mid-April. A BCCI official told leading English daily newspaper Times of India that Bumrah’s injury is a little serious.
“Bumrah’s injury is a bit more serious. The medical team wants to ensure he doesn’t suffer a stress fracture. Bumrah himself is being careful”, the BCCI source said.
“He (Bumrah) is bowling at the CoE (Centre of Excellence) but it could take longer to get back in full swing. No definite timeline has been set yet, but one hopes he gets back by mid-April” the source further added.
Mumbai Indians have lost two games out of three in IPL 2025 so far
Meanwhile, MI made a dismal start in IPL 2025 by losing their first two games. MI lost the opening clash against Chennai Super Kings by four wickets and their second encounter against Gujarat Titans by 36 runs.
However, the Hardik Pandya-led side made a stunning comeback in their third match of the season against KKR, winning the match by eight wickets. MI will next face Lucknow Super Giants on Friday, April 4.
The encounter will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Sadly, Bumrah’s absence will hamper MI’s pace attack in the match.
